Late Jurassic Cassiduloids (Echinodermata, Echinoidea) from West-Central Argentina: Taxonomic and Paleogeographic Implications
Caccia, Patricio Esteban; Cataldo, Cecilia Soledad; Aguirre Urreta, María Beatriz
The group shows an increase in diversity and abundance at the end of the Jurassic. In Argentina, cassiduloids are represented from the Middle Jurassic upwards. This paper describes a Tithonian cassiduloid from the Picún Leufú Formation (Neuquén Basin, Argentina) identified as Mepygurus? andinus new comb. according to the poorly developed bourrelets, straight phyllodes that are continuous up to the margin, and a subpentagonal outline. The species was originally described from the Baños del Flaco Formation on the Chilean slope of the Neuquén-Aconcagua Basin. This record extends the stratigraphical range of the genus to at least the Tithonian and provides further evidence to the interpretation of the spatial continuity of shallow-water platforms during the Late Jurassic in the Andean region.
Chile, año cero: la imagen-esperanza en el cine de la Unidad Popular; Chile, year zero: the image-hope in the cnema of the popular unit
Taccetta, Natalia Roberta
From a theoretical perspective close to the affective turn, these pages propose to reflect on the construction of hope in part of the Chilean Popular Unity cinema during the first months of Salvador Allende’s government. We do not review in depth films about which everything has been said, but we study what can be called the image-hope. We chose three films whose only common note is that they correspond in various ways to a kind of «zero year»: El primer año by Patricio Guzmán (1972), Voto + fusil by Helvio Soto (1971) and Palomita blanca by Raúl Ruiz, finished in 1973 before the coup d’état and released in 1992. In all three, it is possible to thematize a hope that seems to raise more questions than reassuring options even when, as Guzmán said in the filming diary of El primer año, «Chile was a party».

Una mirada a París desde la alcantarilla: Los “cuartos propios” de Alejandra Pizarnik; A look at Paris from the sewer: Alejandra Pizarnik's "room of one's own"
Barbero, Ludmila Soledad
We will dwell on certain spatial and spatio-corporal representations in the Diarios (2013) of the Parisian period (1960-1964) to see how the city and the “room of her own” appear there. Entries from previous years will be taken up for the analysis of space, and references to correspondence, particularly the Cartas Alejandra Pizarnik/ Leon Ostrov (2012). We will take upon the perspective that space and body are inseparable –as well as key elements– in Pizarnik's writing.; Dans l’œuvre d’Alejandra Pizarnik, les espaces ont une forte présence corporelle et, en retour, les représentations du corps sont construites à l’aide de références spatiales.
Gravitational study of escape routes and residence regions of Ceres and Vesta fragments
Gravitational study of escape routes and residence regions of Ceres and Vesta fragments
Zain, Patricio Salvador; Di Sisto, Romina Paula
Aims. Ceres and Vesta are the two largest bodies in the main asteroid belt (MB) and have been extensively studied, particularly sincethe DAWN mission. Vesta is known to have an associated asteroid family, while the existence of a Ceres family is uncertain. Thisstudy investigates the fate of multi-kilometre fragments ejected from Ceres and Vesta due to impacts over a timescale of severalhundred million years.Methods. We performed purely gravitational N-body simulations to investigate the dynamical evolution of multi-kilometre-sizedfragments ejected from Ceres and Vesta. We tracked the trajectories of these fragments and identified their residence regions withinthe MB. We analysed the escape routes and end states of the fragments that manage to leave the MB, including the delivery to thenear-Earth asteroids (NEAs). We also estimated the number of collisions with Earth that could be attributed to large fragments ejectedfrom Ceres and Vesta.Results. Our simulations show that the Ceres fragments are dispersed over a larger region in the MB compared to Vesta fragments dueto their higher ejection velocities. We identified the escape routes of the fragments that leave the MB, which for the Ceres fragmentsare the 5:2 and 8:3 mean-motion resonances (MMR), and for the Vesta fragments are the 3:1 MMR and ν6 secular resonance, wherethey can be delivered to the NEA region. We also find that the Pristine region, located between the 5:2 and 7:3 MMR, is the mostlikely place to find any surviving member of a Ceres family. There were no collisions of large Ceres or Vesta fragments with Earthover the age of the Solar System, suggesting that, under the model considered here, the howardite–eucrite–diogenite (HED) meteoritesoriginate from smaller NEAs from Vesta.

Determining the conservation status of long-lived and highly mobile species is particularly challenging due to their long generational time and the spatio-temporal scale at which they interact with their landscape. Vultures are not only extremely vagile and long-lived but are also some of the most threatened species globally. However, the genetic status and connectivity patterns of most vulture species of the southern hemisphere remain poorly understood. Herein, we studied the patterns of neutral genetic variability in both the captive and remnant wild populations of Andean condors (Vultur gryphus) from the equatorial Andes and assessed their movement dynamic to infer current connectivity, as well as identify conservation corridors in one of the most critical areas for the conservation of the species. We found that the demographic collapse of condors in the region has severely affected their effective population size, which might lead to an extinction vortex in the near future. However, our results indicated that the captive population still harbors substantial genetic variation that could be harnessed to strengthen wild populations. Although our landscape resistance models revealed that the northern Andean corridor provides a continuum of suitable habitat for condors, our connectivity assessment identified important spatial disruptions, likely driven by anthropogenic processes. We discuss the implications of our findings to the conservation plan of Andean condors, while highlighting the importance of integrating multiple data sources to identify extinction risks in other species exhibiting high dispersal capabilities and long generational times.

Un protagonista jesuita que se convirtió en paradigma de un tiempo y ejemplo para jóvenes, entregando la vida por la profunda convicción de su fe cristiana.; Although Tornetti's book was quoted by some authors, it seems that they did not consult it because they would have mentioned some of the information contained in it. It is our intention to make known this work that we enclose, translated into Spanish, published in Italy in 1711. Beforehand, we have analyzed the motives and the context in which it was written by a long-lived parish priest, a fellow citizen of the biographer, in difficult times for Italy in the 18th century. From there, we briefly analyze the development of the biographical genre among the Jesuits of Paraguay, as well as a biobibliography of Father Antonio Ripari, and then address the central aspects, that is the author, the dedication, the printer and above all the content of the text. A Jesuit protagonist who became a paradigm of a time and an example for young people, giving his life for the profound conviction of his Christian faith.
The VISCACHA survey. VIII. Chemical evolution history of the Small Magellanic Cloud west halo clusters
The VISCACHA survey. VIII. Chemical evolution history of the Small Magellanic Cloud west halo clusters

The chemical evolution history of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) has been a matter of debate for decades. The challenges in understanding the SMC chemical evolution are related to a very slow star formation rate (SFR) combined with bursts triggered by the multiple interactions between the SMC and the Large Magellanic Cloud, a significant (∼0.5 dex) metallicity dispersion for the SMC cluster population younger than about 7.5 Gyr, and multiple chemical evolution models tracing very different paths through the observed age–metallicity relation of the SMC. There is no doubt that these processes were complex. Therefore, a step-by-step strategy is required in order to better understand the SMC chemical evolution. We adopted an existing framework to split the SMC intoregions on the sky, and we focus on the west halo in this work, which contains the oldest and most metal-poor stellar populations and is moving away from the SMC, that is, in an opposite motion with respect to the Magellanic Bridge. We present a sample containing ∼60% of all west halo clusters to represent the region well, and we identify a clear age–metallicity relation with a tight dispersionthat exhibits a 0.5 dex metallicity dip about 6 Gyr ago. We ran chemical evolution models and discuss possible scenarios to explain this metallicity dip, the most likely being a major merger accelerating the SFR after the event. This merger should be combined with inefficient internal gas mixing within the SMC and different SFRs in different SMC regions because the same metallicity dip is not seen in the AMR of the SMC combining clusters from all regions. We try to explain the scenario to better understand the SMC chemo-dynamical history.

Orbits in static magnetically and dyonically charged Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg black hole spacetimes
Magos Cortes, Daniela; Bretón, Nora; Macías, Alfredo
In the framework of the nonlinear Euler-Heisenberg electrodynamics coupled to general relativity, we consider static Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg magnetically and dyonically charged black hole spacetimes. These black holes are characterized, as usual, by mass M, magnetic charge Qm, electric charge Q and the Euler-Heisenberg nonlinear parameter. We find all possible equatorial trajectories for neutral and charged test particles. We analyze the light rings by using the Plebański pseudometric. The shape of the shadow of these black holes is presented, discussed, and compared with the one of the corresponding ReissnerNordström linear cases.

Heparan sulfate (HS), an abundant component of the apical cell surface and basement membrane, belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of carbohydrates covalently linked to proteins called heparan sulfate proteoglycans. After endocytosis, HS is degraded in the lysosome by several enzymes, including heparan-alpha-glucosaminide N-acetyltransferase (HGSNAT), and in its absence causes Mucopolysaccharidosis III type C (Sanfilippo type C). Since endocytosis occurs in epithelial cells of the testis and epididymis, we examined the morphological effects of Hgsnat inactivation in these organs. In the testis, Hgsnat knockout (Hgsnat-Geo) mice revealed statistically significant decrease in tubule and epithelial profile area of seminiferous tubules. Electron microscopy (EM) analysis revealed cross-sectional tubule profiles with normal and moderately to severely altered appearances. Abnormalities in Sertoli cells and blood-testis barrier and the absence of germ cells in some tubules were noted along with altered morphology of sperm, sperm motility parameters and a reduction in fertilization rates in vitro. Along with quantitatively increased epithelial and tubular profile areas in the epididymis, EM demonstrated significant accumulations of electrolucent lysosomes in the caput-cauda regions that were reactive for cathepsin D and prosaposin antibodies. Lysosomes with similar storage materials were also found in basal, clear and myoid cells. In the mid/basal region of the epithelium of caput-cauda regions of KO mice, large vacuolated cells, unreactive for cytokeratin 5, a basal cell marker, were identified morphologically as epididymal mononuclear phagocytes (eMPs). The cytoplasm of the eMPs was occupied by a gigantic lysosome suggesting an active role of these cells in removing debris from the epithelium. Some eMPs were found in proximity to T-lymphocytes, a feature of dendritic cells. Taken together, our results reveal that upon Hgsnat inactivation, morphological alterations occur to the testis affecting sperm morphology and motility parameters and abnormal lysosomes in epididymal epithelial cells, indicative of a lysosomal storage disease.

Introduction: Cannabidiol (CBD), the main non-psychoactive cannabinoid of the Cannabis sativa plant, is a powerful antioxidant compound that in recent years has increased interest due to causes effects in a wide range of biological functions. Zika virus (ZIKV) is a virus transmitted mainly by the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which causes neurological diseases, such as microcephaly and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Although the frequency of viral outbreaks has increased recently, no vaccinations or particular chemotherapeutic treatments are available for ZIKV infection. Objectives: The major aim of this study was to explore the in vitro antiviral activity of CBD against ZIKV, expanding also to other dissimilar viruses. Materials and Methods: Cell cultures were infected with enveloped and nonenveloped viruses and treated with non-cytotoxic concentrations of CBD and then, viral titers were determined. Additionally, the mechanism of action of the compound during ZIKV in vitro infections was studied. To study the possible immunomodulatory role of CBD, infected and uninfected Huh-7 cells were exposed to 10 μM CBD during 48 h and levels of interleukins 6 and 8 and interferon-beta (IFN-β) expression levels were measured. On the other hand, the effect of CBD on cellular membranes was studied. For this, an immunofluorescence assay was performed, in which cell membranes were labeled with wheat germ agglutinin. Finally, intracellular cholesterol levels were measured. Results: CBD exhibited a potent antiviral activity against all the tested viruses in different cell lines with half maximal effective concentration values (CE50) ranging from 0.87 to 8.55 μM. Regarding the immunomodulatory effect of CBD during ZIKV in vitro infections, CBD-treated cells exhibited significantly IFN-β increased levels, meanwhile, interleukins 6 and 8 were not induced. Furthermore, it was determined that CBD affects cellular membranes due to the higher fluorescence intensity that was observed in CBD-treated cells and lowers intracellular cholesterol levels, thus affecting the multiplication of ZIKV and other viruses. Conclusions: It was demonstrated that CBD inhibits structurally dissimilar viruses, suggesting that this phytochemical has broad-spectrum antiviral effect, representing a valuable alternative in emergency situations during viral outbreaks, like the one caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in 2020.

To compare all-cause mortality of unvaccinated oncology patients who received chemotherapy or immunotherapy during the pandemic with those treated before the pandemic. Materials and methods. We conducted a cohort study in four tertiary hospitals in Argentina. Outpatients with a solid neoplasm of any stage under-going cytotoxic or intravenous immunotherapy were eligible. The pandemic cohort was enrolled during the initial phase of the outbreak and compared with a pre-pandemic cohort using propensity score matching (PSM). Subjects were matched for age, sex, health insurance, risk factors for severe COVID-19 complications, performance status, cancer type and treatment, line of treatment, and body mass index. All-cause mortality was estimated for both cohorts after 6 months of follow-up. Results. A total of 169 patients were recruited between April and August 2020 for the pandemic cohort and 377 for the pre-pandemic cohort in the same months of 2019; 168 patients were matched. After PSM, all-cause mortality was 17.9% in the pandemic cohort and 18.5% in the pre-pandemic cohort; the Relative Risk was 0.97 (95 % confidence interval: 0.61-1.52; p=0.888). In the pandemic cohort, 30/168 patients died, but none from COVID-19. Conclusions. Our findings show that the mortality rate of unvaccinated ambulatory patients on active intravenous oncology treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic did not increase.

Swift J1749.4-2807 is the only known eclipsing accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar. In this paper, we report on seven thermonuclear (Type-I) X-ray bursts observed by NICER during its 2021 outburst. The first six bursts show slow rises and long decays, indicative of mixed H/He fuel, whereas the last burst shows fast rise and decay, suggesting He-rich fuel. Time-resolved spectroscopy of the bursts revealed typical phenomenology (i.e. an increase in blackbody temperature during the burst rise, and steady decrease in the decay), however, they required a variable NH. We found that the values of NH during the bursts were roughly double those found in the fits of the persistent emission prior to each burst. We interpret this change in absorption as evidence of burst-disc interaction, which we observe due to the high inclination of the system. We searched for burst oscillations during each burst and detected a signal in the first burst at the known spin frequency of the neutron star (517.92 Hz). This is the first time burst oscillations have been detected from Swift J1749.4-2807. We further find that each X-ray burst occurs on top of an elevated persistent count rate. We performed time-resolved spectroscopy on the combined data of the bursts with sufficient statistics (i.e. the clearest examples of this phenomenon) and found that the blackbody parameters evolve to hotter temperatures closer to the onset of the bursts. We interpret this as a consequence of an unusual marginally stable burning process similar to that seen through mHz QPOs.

Both privatization and imperial appropriation of lands and natural resources are expropiatory dynamics intrinsic to the accumulation by dispossession’s process habitually carried out by the mining industry. Lithium boom is not an exception to that rule. On the basis of scholar literature, official sources, journalistic information, corporative reports, and specialized web pages, this paper analyzes the process of grabbing of lands, salt basins and mineral and hydric resources unchained by the lithium fever in Argentina, a country that is both the fourth lithium producer and exporter and the second reservoir of such metal in the world. The findings show the privatization of the mineral-land-water triad, the grabbing of both an area of 1.8 million of hectares and reserves valued in almost 86 million of tons of lithium carbonate equivalent. Moreover, they reveal the geopolitic battle for control of the domestic resource, and an involvement of the Argentinean capital in the process substantially bigger than initially considered.

How to Avoid the Trick?: Heritage Discussions from Theban Tomb TT123, Luxor (Egypt)
Pellini, José; Marconetto, María Bernarda; Gheco, Lucas Ignacio
We introduce the surveys of the walls and ceilings of Theban tomb 123 (TT123), located on the West Bank of Luxor (Egypt). On the basis of the identification of material evidence of the different episodes of occupation and transformation of this place since its initial construction, which took place between 1479 and 1425 BC as the tomb of the scribe Amenemhet, until today, we reflect on the difficulties and consequences of the traditional approaches of conservation and restoration in Egypt. We argue that such places are subject to constant changes according to the uses and the agents they summoned all throughout their complex history. TT123 is not only a pharaoh’s tomb that deteriorated as a result of the passing of time but also far more than that. This paper seeks to explore the tension between more traditional approaches to conservation and restoration in Egypt and a more inclusive approach that recognizes the tomb’s passage through time.

Thus, the aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the MTI in Spanish, since it has not been validated in that language. The only existing study in the Spanish population is one with Mexican adults, but its objective was to examine its measurement invariance with respect to adult athletes from the United States. For this purpose, an intentional, non-probabilistic sample of 550 esports players (80% male) with a mean age of 22 years (SD = 3.91) from Buenos Aires, Argentina was formed. By dividing the sample into two groups at random, the results -both from exploratory and confirmatory factorial analyzes-yielded a unifactorial structure similar to that postulated by the authors of the questionnaire. Internal consistency was adequate with a value of.85. The construct validity of the questionnaire with anxiety and motivation for sports was detected, for which it would be an instrument with evidence of properties for a rapid measurement of the construct.; A força mental é um construto importante para no contexto do desporto, sendo o Índice de Resistência Mental (MTI) um dos instrumentos mais utilizados neste contexto. Reading comprehension in undergraduates during the COVID-19 pandemic: Associations with executive function difficulties, reading habits and screen times

The COVID-19 pandemic and its concomitant restriction measures drastically altered the routines and learning formats of students from all levels. In addition, it has been shown that pandemic-related stress negatively impacted their mental health and cognitive functioning. Undergraduates have been signaled out as one of the populations most vulnerable to pandemic-related stressors. The following work examined the link between executive functions, perceived stress and reading comprehension among Argentinean university students during lockdown measures. In addition, potential effects of reading habits and screen exposure were considered. An executive function behavioral rating scale (ADEXI), a reading comprehension test and the PSS-10 stress questionnaire were administered to two-hundred social science students through an online survey. Executive difficulties increased with perceived stress, while lower inhibition was associated with longer TV times and being male. Stress and executive function associations can be interpreted as a detrimental effect, reverse or bidirectional causation. In turn, working memory issues led to worse comprehension (mediating the impact of perceived stress) while distal factors such as print exposure and mother education were positive predictors of reading outcomes (as expected). This finding suggests that undergraduates’ difficulties to manipulate online information interfered with expository text processing, resulting in poorer comprehension performance.
