CONICET Digital -

This study addresses the Connecting Equality Programme (CEP) which has been delivering netbooks among students and teachers of Argentinian schools. This article explores the multi-dimensional nature of this government programme. The analysis claims that, in similar fashion to the ‘One Laptop per Child’ programme, the CEP aimed at reducing the digital gap by improving the access to information and communication technology in Argentina. However, and in stark contrast to the One Laptop per Child programme, the implementation process of the CEP highlights the progressive incorporation of educational, political, infrastructural and industrial objectives aside from the aforementioned reduction of the digital gap. Therefore, this study addresses the progressive incorporation of many dimensions and objectives within the frame of a single government programme and suggests a number of future managerial implications for this type of public policy initiative.

CONICET Digital -

Se incluye además el análisis de los errores de la aproximación.; This work presents the materials and parameters selection criteria of wedge cells for refractometry in the visible range. These cells consist of two right angle prisms facing each other, defining a wedge-shaped cavity where the sample is placed. The refractive index of the sample is determined from the deviation of a light beam that traverses the cell. This model for engineering purposes includes the cell geometry and the refractive indexes of the cell material and the sample. We perform the numerical calculation and ray tracing of the optical system. We also propose polinomial fitting functions in order to simplify the numerical treatment, and as a complement to the complete set of equations. These polynomials give the refractive index of the sample as an explicit function of the deviation angle. An analysis of the approximation errors is also given.

The article aims is to develop the demand side management concept in relation to existing control types. It also aims to providing a simple example of demand optimization to evaluate the potentialities of a hybrid control. A brief introduction is presented detailing the state of the art. Then, the direct and indirect control over demand was discussed, the types of loads were described, and a table with the residential loads was prepared. Two residences were modeled, which could modify their load before a given price scheme and a non-concentration objective set by the distributor. This resulted in obtaining a correct optimization and distributing of the loads in a different way in the second round. It is concluded that an intervention of the distributor can improve the distribution of the demand by the randomness of the genetic algorithm without compromising user privacy.

Context-specific functions of Notch in Drosophila blood cell progenitors

CONICET Digital -

Context-specific functions of Notch in Drosophila blood cell progenitors Blanco Obregón, Dalmiro Manuel; Katz, Maximiliano Javier; Durrieu, Lucía; Gándara, Lautaro; Wappner, Pablo Drosophila Larval hematopoiesis takes place at the lymph gland, where myeloid-like progenitors differentiate into Plasmatocytes and Crystal Cells, under regulation of conserved signaling pathways. It has been established that the Notch pathway plays a specific role in Crystal Cell differentiation and maintenance. In mammalian hematopoiesis, the Notch pathway has been proposed to fulfill broader functions, including Hematopoietic Stem Cell maintenance and cell fate decision in progenitors. In this work we describe different roles that Notch plays in the lymph gland. We show that Notch, activated by its ligand Serrate, expressed at the Posterior Signaling Center, is required to restrain Core Progenitor differentiation. We define a novel population of blood cell progenitors that we name Distal Progenitors, where Notch, activated by Serrate expressed in Lineage Specifying Cells at the Medullary Zone/Cortical Zone boundary, regulates a binary decision between Plasmatocyte and Crystal Cell fates. Thus, Notch plays context-specific functions in different blood cell progenitor populations of the Drosophila lymph gland.

CONICET Digital -

Since June 3, 2015, collective actions that question the established ways of producing the daily life, opening new questions about the place of the body in street political practices and the possibility of building the hospitality necessary to gather various forms of existence inside the feminist movement. In this sense, the present work intends to analyze the action carried out by Argentine residents in São Paulo, Brazil, under the slogan "The repudiation of Juan Darthés crosses borders" when they took knowledge about the trip of the actor accused of rape after the conference press provided by the Actresses Argentinas Collective. Understanding that it marked a milestone in the Argentine feminist cause, it will be approached as a liminal space that enables a reading as a media product and another as an event inscribed in a framework of greater enunciation that the actresses had been building with their previous appearances. Secondly, not only will the images, slogans and other significant elements used during the action carried out on Avenida Paulista be considered, also be taken into account the impressions of the participants expressed in the interview, which resonated in " the body” affected by the experience and the repercussions received after the street performance. By way of conclusion, the negotiation instances with the participants that made possible the construction of a common notion of “feel” risks in the local context will also be included. From which the senses of social agency used a priori in other articles on performances were reviewed.

We have used various types of sources, political and union publications, business journals and official documents.

Distribution of the organic anion transporters Oat1 and Oat3 between renal membrane microdomains in obstructive jaundice

CONICET Digital -

Distribution of the organic anion transporters Oat1 and Oat3 between renal membrane microdomains in obstructive jaundice Nosetto, Evangelina Cecilia; Campagno, Romina Valeria; Torres, Adriana Mónica; Brandoni, Anabel Relation between the renal function and the membrane environment where the organic anion transporters Oat1 and Oat3 are localized is scarce. The aim of this study was to examine the Oat1 and Oat3 distribution in different cellular fractions under physiological conditions as well as the effects of extrahepatic cholestasis on membrane distribution of both proteins. Besides, the potential role of jaundice serum on the Oat1 and Oat3 expression in suspensions of renal tubular cells was evaluated. Cellular and membrane fractions of renal cortex were obtained from control rats to evaluate Oat1 and Oat3 protein expressions. Other rats were subjected to bile duct ligation (BDL) or Sham operation to determine the membrane distribution of Oat1 and Oat3 between lipid raft domains (LRD) and non-LRD. Incubation of renal cortical cells with serum from Sham and BDL were also performed to study Oat1 and Oat3 protein expressions. In physiological conditions, Oat1 and Oat3 were concentrated in LRD. The pathology induced a shift of Oat1 from LRD to non-LRD, while Oat3 showed no changes in its distribution. In cells exposed to BDL serum, Oat1 protein expression in membranes significantly increased. For Oat3, no difference between groups was observed. The Oat1 redistribution to non-LRD in BDL could be favoring the increase in renal transport of organic anions previously observed. This change was specific to Oat1. The in vitro experiment allows to conclude that some component present in BDL serum is responsible for the alterations observed in Oat1 expression in cortical membranes.

CONICET Digital -

Although mortgage loans can be a solution, have not had a large participation, representing only 1.5% of GDP in 2012. In response, that same year the "Pro.Cre.Ar Program" was partially launched, which was then limited by the new government in 2016 that creates another financing system based on the "Purchase Value Unit" (UVA), updated with the Reference Stabilization Coefficient governed by the general inflation index. In this context, the main objective of the article is to analyze the new UVA public financing system to obtain a home of its own in Rosario. The methodology is descriptive, focused on the content analysis of written documents (research, journalistic articles, official documents) and semi-structured interviews. The results show that in its beginnings it did not have problems, the quotas were low (similar to that of a rent) and the public banks had greater protagonism but since 2018 with the accelerated inflation, the devaluation of the currency, the consequent increases of the UVA and fixed rates caused the demand to be reduced, with practically no requests.

A new abelisauroid (Dinosauria: Theropoda) from the Huincul Formation (lower Upper Cretaceous, Neuquén Basin) of Patagonia, Argentina

CONICET Digital -

A new abelisauroid (Dinosauria: Theropoda) from the Huincul Formation (lower Upper Cretaceous, Neuquén Basin) of Patagonia, Argentina Baiano, Mattia Antonio; Coria, Rodolfo Anibal; Cau, Andrea A new ceratosaurian theropod dinosaur, Huinculsaurus montesi gen. et sp. nov., is described here. This taxon is based on the last three dorsal vertebrae and the first and second sacral vertebrae found in association at Aguada Grande, Neuquén Province, Argentina. Although fragmentary, Huinculsaurus shows a unique mix of features which differentiates it from all other theropods, including the sympatric abelisaurid Ilokelesia, and is diagnosed by prezygapophyseal articular facets twice longer than wide, anterior centroparapophyseal lamina strongly developed as an extensive lateral lamina in the posterior dorsal vertebrae, pneumatic foramina located ventrally to the postzygodiapophyseal lamina in the posterior dorsal vertebrae, posteriorly tapering postzygapophysis pointed posteriorly, and an accessory lamina bisecting the parapophyseal centrodiapophyseal fossa in the posterior dorsal neural arches. Phylogenetic analyses recovered Huinculsaurus as most closely related to the Late Jurassic Elaphrosaurus than to other Cretaceous abelisauroids, suggesting the persistence of the elaphrosaurine lineage in South America up to the early Late Cretaceous.

Trielectrode plasma reactor for water treatment

CONICET Digital -

Trielectrode plasma reactor for water treatment Giuliani, Leandro Estanislao; De Angelis, L.; Díaz Bukvic, Gema; Zanini, Matías; Minotti, Fernando Oscar; Errea, María Inés; Grondona, Diana Elena Water pollution due to emerging organic pollutants, such as agrochemicals, has become a topic of growing interest worldwide. The increase of pollutants in aquatic systems stimulated the development of new strategies for water remediation. Plasma technology is an advanced oxidation process which has proved to be an efficient method for organic matter degradation. In this work, a novel design of a trielectrode plasma reactor based on a dielectric barrier discharge extended to a third electrode operated in ambient air is presented. The water to be treated flows through a gutter with low impedance and far from the electrodes connected to the voltage sources. The reactor operates in ambient air, and it does not rely on the use of expensive inert gases. The design of the reactor is easily scalable. The performance of the reactor, in terms of the removal efficiency and the energy yield, was tested in an aqueous solution of the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), one of the most widely used around the world. The reactor presents a good efficiency in the removal of the herbicide 2,4-D and values of energy yield of about 240 mg/kW h.

Quadratic helicity and cosmological magnetic fields

CONICET Digital -

Quadratic helicity and cosmological magnetic fields Akhmet'ev, Peter; Cirilo, Diego Julio; Smirnov, Alexandr In this work, the quadratic helicity χB(2) is discussed from the physical and topological points of view. We show, after the introduction of a mathematical description of the properties of helicity and quadratic helicity in the context of standard dynamo equations, examples of the importance of these high invariants in cosmological scenarios. These scenarios consider extensions of the standard model and extensions of GR.

Physics of in vitro magnetofection. Effect of magnetic transport and redistribution of nanoparticles

CONICET Digital -

Physics of in vitro magnetofection. Effect of magnetic transport and redistribution of nanoparticles Arciniegas Vaca, Magda Lorena; Pasquevich, Gustavo Alberto; Mykhaylyk, Olga; Mele, Nicolás Germán; Goya, Rodolfo Gustavo; Sanchez, Francisco Homero A comprehensive study of relevant aspects of the physics behind in vitro magnetic assisted transfection, or magnetofection is presented. Magnetofection experiments were performed as a function of culture-magnet distance for a fixed time of 30 min, as a function of time for a fixed separation of about 1 mm, and under special geometries chosen to elucidate the relative effects of gravitational and magnetic forces. It is shown that under appropriate conditions, in vitro magnetofection can be performed with almost equal easiness in any desired space direction, even against gravity. Redistribution of magnetic nanoparticles in a colloid, with an initial uniform distribution, was studied with the same experimental setup used in magnetofection experiments, as a function of time, and as a function of culture-magnet relative position. It was found that magnetic nanoparticles tend to arrange into concentrated regions with ring or circle shapes, and that final distribution depends strongly on relative position. Cellular uptake of magnetic nanoparticles was estimated for standard magnetofection and for no applied magnetic field experiments. A consistent description of results is given by comparing magnetofection efficiency, nanoparticles uptake and redistribution experiments. The results presented here constitute novel information that will contribute to gaining deeper understanding of how magnetofection proceeds and how can be improved. They impact directly on in vivo procedures, providing conceptual tools to optimize setup geometry and magnetic field application time.

CONICET Digital -

The aim of this work is to empirically analyze the relationship of financial ratios and firm characteristics with the inclusion of an emphasis paragraph for uncertainty related to the going concern assumption in the auditor’s report. The firms that make public offers of their shares in the stock markets of Argentina are studied. Statistical analysis is carried out in two stages: bivariate analysis with non-parametric tests, and multivariate analysis using a probit regression. The results of the bivariate analysis show that the age of the firm, current ratio, and solvency ratios are significantly associated with the uncertainty of a going concern. In the multivariate analysis, the margin on sales and the age of the firm are relevant, with a negative effect on the likelihood of the firm having a report with an emphasis on uncertainty of a company in progress, while the debt ratio shows a positive effect.

A new megaflora (leaves and reproductive structures) from the Huancané Formation (Lower Cretaceous), Peru

CONICET Digital -

A new megaflora (leaves and reproductive structures) from the Huancané Formation (Lower Cretaceous), Peru Martinez, Leandro Carlos Alcides; Pacheco Huacallo, Edgar; Pujana, Roberto Roman; Padula, Horacio We describe fossil leaves and reproductive structures remains from the Lower Cretaceous of Peru. A great part of the plant fossils are very well preserved, and they come from three different stratigraphic levels of the Huancane Formation in a single locality close to Cusco City. The fossil flora is dominated by Brachyphyllum, Cupressinocladus, Podozamites, leaves assigned to the Araucariaceae and Araucarites Presl. Other leaf fossil-genera found are: Weichselia, Sagenopteris, Sphenopteris, and Pachypteris. This fossil assemblage is consistent with the age inferred for the Huancane Formation, which was based on biostratigraphic and isotopic studies. The plant assemblage suggests a forest canopy dominated by conifers, with an understore composed by ferns (Weichselia) and putative pteridosperms. These new data increase the knowledge of the palaeofloristic composition of the Cretaceous flora of Peru, contribute to the fossil record of South America, and particularly to the palaeoflora near equatorial regions.

Data of ureagenesis from ammonia, glutamine and alanine, and mitochondrial aquaporin-8 expression in thioacetamide-treated hepatocytes

CONICET Digital -

Data of ureagenesis from ammonia, glutamine and alanine, and mitochondrial aquaporin-8 expression in thioacetamide-treated hepatocytes Capiglioni, Alejo Matías; Alvarez, María de Luján; Marinelli, Raul Alberto We present data about the synthesis of urea from different substrates, i.e., free ammonia, glutamine and alanine in primary cultured rat hepatocytes treated or untreated with the model hepatotoxic agent thioacetamide (TAA). We also provide data about the expression of mitochondrial aquaporin-8 (mtAQP8), a hepatocyte channel protein which facilitates ammonia diffusion into mitochondria to supply the urea cycle. Ammonia-derived ureagenesis was significantly inhibited by about 30% while that from the both amino acids resulted unaffected in TAA-treated hepatocytes. Protein expression of mtAQP8 was decreased by about 80% after TAA treatment. These data can be useful for the understanding of the mechanisms of drug-induced hepatic dysfunction.

Further results on why a point process is effective for estimating correlation between brain regions

CONICET Digital -

Further results on why a point process is effective for estimating correlation between brain regions Cifre, I.; Zarepour Nasir Abadi, Mahdi; Horovitz, S. G.; Cannas, Sergio Alejandro; Chialvo, Dante Renato Signals from brain functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can be efficiently represented by a sparse spatiotemporal point process, according to a recently introduced heuristic signal processing scheme. This approach has already been validated for relevant conditions, demonstrating that it preserves and compresses a surprisingly large fraction of the signal information. Here we investigated the conditions necessary for such an approach to succeed, as well as the underlying reasons, using real fMRI data and a simulated dataset. The results show that the key lies in the temporal correlation properties of the time series under consideration. It was found that signals with slowly decaying autocorrelations are particularly suitable for this type of compression, where inflection points contain most of the information.

The importance of denitrification performed by nitrogen-fixing bacteria used as inoculants in South America

CONICET Digital -

The importance of denitrification performed by nitrogen-fixing bacteria used as inoculants in South America Zilli, Jerri Édson; Alves, Bruno Jose Rodrigues; Rouws, Luc Felicianus Marie; Simões-Araujo, Jean Luiz; de Barros Soares, Luis Henrique; Cassan, Fabricio Dario; Obando Castellanos, Dolly Melissa; O'Hara, Graham Replacing synthetic fertilizers by biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is regarded as an environmentally sound practice, but some diazotrophic bacteria are capable of emitting N2O by denitrification. The ability to use nitrate represents an ecological advantage for the survival of some microorganisms under O2-limiting conditions, but may contribute to increased N2O emissions. Scope The importance of denitrification performed by N2-fixing bacteria used as inoculants in South America is discussed, especially the possibility of these bacteria act as N2O source or sink. Conclusions There is no doubt of the importance of BNF as a sustainable N source for plants. Through genome investigation, we demonstrated that some strains widely used as inoculants for BNF harbor the entire denitrification pathway to reduce nitrate to N2. Others contain none, or only some of the denitrification genes, resulting in complete absence of denitrification or production of intermediates such as NO2−, NO or N2O. Evidence of differential effects of bacterial strains on soil N2O were reported, but more studies are still needed to affirm crop inoculation can be a driver for source or sink of this gas. Finally, considerations were made about BNF as an indispensable resource to indirectly mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in agroecosystems.
