Stress effects on the impedance and ferroelectricity of PVDF- BiFeO3-MWCNT films using xanthan gum as dispersant

Stress effects on the impedance and ferroelectricity of PVDF- BiFeO3-MWCNT films using xanthan gum as dispersant Sosa, Mariana Daniela; Levy, Ivana Karina; Owusu, Francis; Nüesch, Frank; Opris, Dorina; Negri, Ricardo Martin; Saleh Medina, Leila María Composite films based on dispersions of bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) in polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrixes were prepared in the presence of multiwalled-carbon-nanotubes (MWCNT), using xanthan gum (XG) as dispersant. Films were prepared by spin coating and characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and electronic microscopy (SEM). SEM images showed that samples containing MWCNT and XG presented a uniform morphology with homogeneously dispersed fillers. Impedance spectroscopy analysis (ISA) up to 1 MHz and dielectric polarization curves (P-E loops) were recorded in the presence of applied unidirectional mechanical stresses (up to 10 MPa). The effect of stress on the dielectric permittivity and the relative remnant polarization was successfully described by a constitutive model, which assumes a linear dependence of the piezoelectric coefficient, d33, on the applied stress and the dielectric displacement.

This study analyzed the perception of the sound environment, the identification of certain emotions and shows a comparison of the perception of sound in the area of residence before and during the social, preventive and compulsory isolation that occurred in Argentina on March 20- 2020. The collection of data was carried out online using the Google forms platform, with responses obtained from the Northwest region of the country. A self-administered survey with semantic differentials and Likert scales was used as an instrument. The results show a decrease in the perception of noise during isolation in the areas of residence, but the presence of irritating sources persisted with slight variations. Regarding emotional states, a two-dimensional structure of affect emerged with a preponderance of negative emotions during the time of isolation. There is a low but significant correlation between the perception of noise and certain emotional states.

The transition to electric mobility: opportunities for the automotive value chain in Argentina

The transition to electric mobility: opportunities for the automotive value chain in Argentina Dulcich, Federico Martín; Porta, Fernando Enrique; Ubogui, Matias; Baruj, Gustavo Andrés The current transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles opens windows of opportunity for the repositioning of firms and countries in global and regional automotive value chains. The objective of this paper is to study these opportunities posed for the automotive chain in Argentina. The main results show that Argentina lags behind in the production and diffusion of electric vehicles and has a low deployment of the charging infrastructure. However, this transition would be an opportunity for Argentina to reposition itself in the regional automotive value chains; and its growing specialisation in pickups could position it in the nascent electric pickup market, without large, consolidated players. At the same time, there are opportunities to increase the national integration of parts and components of the electric powertrain and reduce the high incidence of imports of auto parts.

The present work deals with a comparative case study between two technologies of winemaking tanks, new and traditional ones, to determine the energetic performance of wine production models in relation to the climate zone. The wineries' most common and energy-intensive winemaking process is addressed; fermentation of the must during summer. Using empirical data obtained by simple observations with temperature sensors, processed with statistical software, coefficients of variation, probability distribution, correlations, and bivariate models. With this information, the energy rate of each productive technological model is determined. From different approaches, the results obtained in the interior temperatures of both technological models indicate that the new fermentation envelope technology presents a higher energy rate per unit of product (kWh / L) than traditional envelope technology, and that difference is explained by outsider temperature from the climatic study area.

Influence of land-use changes on microbial community structure and diversity in a semiarid region

Influence of land-use changes on microbial community structure and diversity in a semiarid region Vázquez, Carolina; Verdenelli, Romina Aylen; Merlo, Carolina; Perez Brandan, Carolina Gabriela; Kowaljow, Esteban; Meriles, Jose Manuel Land-use change and the conversion of land into croplands is one of the main drivers of soil degradation and the loss of soil organic carbon. Few studies have evaluated the impact of the expansion of the agricultural frontier on soil microbial communities in the Gran Chaco region in South America; therefore, the objective of this study was to explore how soil microbial communities respond to land-use changes in a semiarid region of Argentina. The land uses selected were total and selective clearing with livestock (TC-livestock and SC-livestock), total clearing with agriculture (TC-agriculture), and an undisturbed site (R-Chancaní). Our results suggest that microbial abundances were strongly influenced by seasonal changes. In both seasons, the lowest values of total microbial biomass were observed in TC-agriculture and TC-livestock. In the wet season, TC-agriculture had the lowest fungal abundance, and both total clearing sites (TC-livestock and TC-agriculture) had higher bacterial abundance than the other sites. Our data also showed that the Shannon and richness indices were highest at the farming sites, indicating a similar tendency in the diversity indexes in both dry and wet seasons. According to Pearson correlation analysis, humic substance (HS) content was a key driver influencing soil microbial communities, demonstrating that high HS content may significantly increase bacteria, fungi, and total phospholipid fatty acids. Microbial composition highly depended on seasonal changes. Overall, our results suggest that land-use change altered microbial community structure and bacterial diversity, and that HS content played a crucial role in driving changes in soil microbial composition.

The influence of Hickson-like compact group environment on galaxy luminosities

The influence of Hickson-like compact group environment on galaxy luminosities Zandivarez, Arnaldo Ariel; Díaz Giménez, E.; Taverna, Maria Antonela Compact groups of galaxies are devised as extreme environments where interactions may drive galaxy evolution. In this work, we analysed whether the luminosities of galaxies inhabiting compact groups differ from those of galaxies in loose galaxy groups. We computed the luminosity functions of galaxy populations inhabiting a new sample of 1412 Hickson-like compact groups of galaxies identified in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 16. We observed a characteristic absolute magnitude for galaxies in compact groups brighter than that observed in the field or loose galaxy systems. We also observed a deficiency of faint galaxies in compact groups in comparison with loose systems. Our analysis showed that the brightening is mainly due to galaxies inhabiting the more massive compact groups. In contrast to what is observed in loose systems, where only the luminosities of Red (and Early) galaxies show a dependency with group mass, luminosities of Red and Blue (also Early and Late) galaxies in compact groups are affected similarly as a function of group virial mass. When using Hubble types, we observed that elliptical galaxies in compact groups are the brightest galaxy population, and groups dominated by an elliptical galaxy also display the brightest luminosities in comparison with those dominated by spiral galaxies. Moreover, we show that the general luminosity trends can be reproduced using a mock catalogue obtained from a semi-analytical model of galaxy formation. These results suggest that the inner extreme environment in compact groups prompts a different evolutionary history for their galaxies.

It was founded in 2008 after an agreement between the university and the Servicio Penitenciario Bonaerense (SPB - the local penitentiary agency) with the aim of guaranteeing the right for education to both men and women deprived of ambulatory freedom, as well as SPB agents. A large part of its students come from communities nearby the prison and have experienced the deficiency of their most basic rights before entering prison. This paper describes the main characteristics acquired by teaching-learning practices at CUSAM through the general analysis of the pedagogical guidelines of the project which, far from being defined, are subject to constant debate and reworking. Throughout the text are established three central topics on which this university project is based on: its roots with the territory, the collective nature of the proposal and the deployment of a critical pedagogy in its development. Finally this paper identifies the contact and possible tensions with popular education models and the contributions that these theories can generate in the construction of educational projects in the context of confinement are analyzed.

This paper aims to study the construction of the image of Maria Eugenia Vidal in the 2015 provincial elections. The contributions of the iconographic studies inspired by Warburg and the dispositionalist aesthetic outlined by Bourdieu are recovered to reflect on the social and historical conditions that explain their effectiveness in terms of production of political supports. We establish that Vidal’s appearance refers to symbolic and visual elements linked, on the one hand, to the imaginaries of purity and disinterest in Marian iconography and, on the other hand, to the feminine routines available in the Argentine political sphere. This is how Vidal's image was able to embody the ideas of "closeness", "transparency" and "honesty" proclaimed in the Cambiemos campaign, as well as deepening the polarization with his main opponent, accused by the media of being involved in corruption and drug trafficking. Finally, the conclusions of the present work are articulated with sociological studies on the forms of recruitment and territorial work of PRO-Cambiemos, in order to highlight the way in which a certain disinterested conception of politics, coming from religious practices of charity, constitutes one of the forms of affinity with this force.

H-theorems for systems of coupled nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations

H-theorems for systems of coupled nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations Plastino, Ángel Ricardo; Wedemann, R. S.; Nobre, F. D. Nonlinear diffusion and Fokker-Planck equations constitute valuable tools in the study of diverse phenomena in complex systems. Processes described by these equations are closely related to thermostatistical formalisms based on generalized entropic functionals. Inspired by these relations, we explore the behavior of systems of coupled, nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations. In particular, we establish an H-theorem for a wide family of this type of systems. This H-theorem is formulated in terms of an appropriate free-energy-like functional. The nonlinear evolution equations discussed here include, as particular instances, those governing the dynamics of interacting multi-species, many-body systems in the overdamped-motion regime.

Mathematical models to assessment the energy performance of textured cladding for facades

Mathematical models to assessment the energy performance of textured cladding for facades Alchapar, Noelia Liliana; Correa Cantaloube, Erica Norma The temperature increase of a city in relation to its peripheral areas leads to the formation of an Urban Heat Island. Working on the opto-thermal properties of the building envelope is a viable mitigation strategy to reduce the temperatures of a city. Having quantitative data on energy performance allows the development of precise evaluations and the selection of the most efficient data in relation to energy consumption. The degree of efficiency of a material is calculated with an indicator called Solar Reflectance Index (SRI). Since opto-thermal properties change over time, the standard recommends obtaining the SRI level of both new and three-year-aged material (SRI3). In the present work, 80 facade claddings were evaluated to: (a) determine which qualitative variables significantly influence the SRI3 of the claddings; (b) obtain an equation that calculates the SRI3 without the need to monitor the large number of variables used for its calculation. For this, the following statistical methods were used: Multifactorial ANOVA and linear regression model. In this correlational analysis, color, composition and texture were selected as independent variables. The research showed that color is the variable that significantly influences SRI3 in all the evaluated claddings. By means of the equation obtained with the regression model, the SRI3 index was predicted reaching 95% IC. These results significantly save time and simplify the process of obtaining data since it is not necessary to monitor numerous input variables to calculate the indicator.

Human macrophage polarization shapes B. pertussis intracellular persistence

Human macrophage polarization shapes B. pertussis intracellular persistence Valdez, Hugo Alberto; Marin Franco, Jose Luis; Gorgojo, Juan Pablo; Alvarez Hayes, Jimena; Balboa, Luciana; Fernandez Lahore, Marcelo; Sasiain, Maria del Carmen; Rodriguez, Maria Eugenia We previously demonstrated that Bordetella pertussis, the etiologic agent of whooping cough, is able to survive inside human macrophages. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of macrophage polarization in the development of B. pertussis intracellular infections. To this end, primary human monocytes were differentiated into M1, M2a, or M2c macrophages and further infected with B. pertussis. Infected M1 macrophages showed a proinflammatory response evidenced by the production of TNF-α, IL-12p70, and IL-6. Conversely, infection of M2a and M2c macrophages did not induce TNF-α, IL-12p70, nor IL-6 at any time postinfection but showed a significant increase of M2 markers, such as CD206, CD163, and CD209. Interestingly, anti-inflammatory cytokines, like IL-10 and TGF-β, were induced after infection in the 3 macrophage phenotypes. B. pertussis phagocytosis by M1 macrophages was lower than by M2 phenotypes, which may be ascribed to differences in the expression level of B. pertussis docking molecules on the surface of the different phenotypes. Intracellular bactericidal activity was found to be significantly higher in M1 than in M2a or M2c cells, but live bacteria were still detected within the 3 phenotypes at the late time points after infection. In summary, this study shows that intracellular B. pertussis is able to survive regardless of the macrophage activation program, but its intracellular survival proved higher in M2 compared with the M1 macrophages, being M2c the best candidate to develop into a niche of persistence for B. pertussis.

Brujas, exorcistas y posesas. Terror, policial y complot en Leonardo Oyola y Nicolás Correa

Brujas, exorcistas y posesas. Terror, policial y complot en Leonardo Oyola y Nicolás Correa; Witches, exorcists and possessed. This article analyzes the novels Santería and Sacrificio, by Leonardo Oyola, and Súcubo and Íncubo, by Nicolás Correa, from the perspective of the dialectical hermeneutics proposed by Fredric Jameson. The study focuses on some features of police genre and horror to account for the plot as an ideologeme that expresses the antagonisms imposed by the social mode of production. The transgressive voices of a witch, an exorcist and a possessed woman allow access to these stories that superimpose the knowable and the esoteric, and articulate conspirational resistances.

2-Nested Matrices: Towards Understanding the Structure of Circle Graphs

2-Nested Matrices: Towards Understanding the Structure of Circle Graphs Durán, Guillermo Enrique; Pardal, Nina; Safe, Martin Dario A (0, 1)-matrix has the consecutive-ones property (C1P) if its columns can be permuted to make the 1’s in each row appear consecutively. This property was characterized in terms of forbidden submatrices by Tucker in 1972. Several graph classes were characterized by means of this property, including interval graphs and strongly chordal digraphs. In this work, we define and characterize 2-nested matrices, which are (0, 1)-matrices with a variant of the C1P and for which there is also a certain assignment of one of two colors to each block of consecutive 1’s in each row. The characterization of 2-nested matrices in the present work is of key importance to characterize split graphs that are also circle by minimal forbidden induced subgraphs.

One-hour social and reproductive behavioral time series of Japanese quail in diverse social environments

One-hour social and reproductive behavioral time series of Japanese quail in diverse social environments We favor the conformation of divergent social environments by using the preselecting animals based on a combination of the 4 behavioral tests described in the project description. Social groups composed of three adult quail, 2 females and 1 male (156-171 days old). We evaluated social and reproductive behavior in these groups. Groups were housed in a white wooden apparatus measuring 80 x 40 x 40 cm (width x length x height, respectively) with wood-shavings on the floor. A feeder and an automatic nipple drinker were positioned in opposite corners of the apparatus. Nylon monofilament line was extended over the top of the boxes with a 1 cm separation in order to prevent the birds from escaping without interfering with their visualization. A video camera was suspended 1.5m above the box. Since only 4 social groups could be tested simultaneously, the setup was repeated 3 consecutive times. For convenience boxes in which each social group were placed were numbered 1-12, where boxes 1-4 were tested simultaneously first, 5-8 second and 9-12 last. We used the ANY-MAZE@ to register the following behaviors as described in Caliva et al. (2017) during a one-hour period between 9 and 10 am inmediatly after placing in box (Day1) after 48h of habituation to the novel setting (Day3): Pecks: when one bird raises its head and vigorously pecks the other bird?s body (usually on the head). Grabs: when a male catches (?grabs?) with their beak the neck or head region of the female. Mounts: while performing a grab, the male approaches a female from behind, and places both feet on the dorsal surface of its torso, stepping over the females? tail. Cloacal contacts: during mounting, the male lifts his tail and tilts his pelvis underneath the other bird and briefly presses its cloaca against the female. Threats: one bird stands with its neck and head raised in front of the other bird that usually has its head at a lower level than the first. Chase: a bird runs after another that is escaping. Foraging: pecking at the ground or actively moving litter with beak. Feeding: peaking at food in the feeding trough. Dust bathing: vertical wing shakes in a lying position . Time series denote with the number one changes towards actively performing the given behavior, while the number zero indicates cessation of that behavior. All time series are stored as text files (.txt). Considering that the 36 animals were evaluated in 12 mixed-sex groups of 3 birds in individual experimental boxes, each subject quail was identified by their experimental group number (Box), ID number of wing band, and sex (femaleA, femaleB or male). In the case of females an indication A or B is used to discriminate between the two. In the file name an indication of the corresponding bird is provided as "BoxNº_IDNº_sex_DayNº" Data descriptor submitted to Sci Data "High resolution behavioral time series of Japanese quail within their their social environment"

Rearranging Marital Settlement Agreements post-pandemics

The effects of the pandemic can be measured not only by its direct impact on the health of the population, but also by its collateral effects. This paper examines the possible impact of the crisis on marital settlement agreements. The pandemic might have caused personal financial situations to change dramatically, some permanently, which could be the trigger of contract breach. Also, the lockdown might have modified the circumstances that have been taken into account by the parties when making those agreements. We therefore wonder if these agreements could be reviewed. The Argentinian legislator has provided that an approved agreement or even a judicial decision can be reviewed if the situation has changed substantially (Article 440 Argentinian Civil and Commercial Code). However, the different legal nature of these financial provisions (alimony, child support, attribution of the use of the marital home, economic compensation, property distribution, etc.) forces us to adopt a differentiated approach. Among the legal tools offered by our Private Law, we highlight the possibility of applying the ‘Theory of Unpredictability’ which takes place when the contractual duties have become excessively onerous due to an extraordinary alteration of the circumstances. As a result, the contract could be renegotiated (which would permit its continuation), or terminated. During these difficult times, it is essential to find creative solutions, taking into account the exceptional circumstances the parties may be going through (especially the most vulnerable) and their needs and possibilities. It is vital to build a collaborative climate; but also, that the misconduct of the parties during the crisis is severely punished. Finally, a criterion that cannot be ignored is the disproportionate impact of the crisis on vulnerable individuals (women, children, elderly, etc.), which must always tip the balance in favor of their protection.

This paper contributes to the debate on the pertinence of the categories of Left and Right to address the conflicts within Peronist factions in Argentina during the seventies. Through oral and written sources, it analyzes the disputes on higher education policies between the University of Buenos Aires and the National Executive Power shortly after the beginning of Isabel Perón’s government. Additionally, moderates, centrists, and so claimed equidistant positions are observed, concluding that Left and Right Peronism are valid categories as poles of a continuum rather than as dichotomous and mutually exclusive expressions, even in a context of polarization and centrifugal competition within the party.
