Background: The etiology and the molecular mechanisms related to breast carcinogenesis remain poorly understood. Some recent reports have examined the role of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in this disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of HPV in breast cancer. Methods: Sixty one fresh frozen breast cancers samples were analyzed. Samples were tested for HPV by PCR, and products were automatically sequenced. Findings were correlated with clinical and pathological characteristics. Results: The HPV DNA prevalence in the breast cancer samples was 26% (16/61). Clinical parameters were not statistically associated with HPV presence (p>0.05 χ2 test). Sequence analysis in a subgroup of cases indicates the prevalence of low risk HPV11, followed by high risk HPV16. We found no HPV transcriptional activity. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated for the first time in Argentina the presence of HPV in a proportion of the malignant breast tissues. This finding suggests that HPV may have a biological significance in breast carcinogenesis.

The human microbiome is an integral part of the superorganism together with their host and they have co-evolved since the early days of the existence of the human species. The modification of the microbiome as a result changes in food and social habits of human beings throughout their life history has led to the emergence of many diseases. In contrast with the darwinian view of nature of selfishness and competence, new holistic approaches are rising. Under these views, the reconstitution of the microbiome comes out as a fundamental therapy for emerging diseases related to biome depletion.

SpoIIIE/FtsK are membrane‐anchored, ATP‐fuelled, directional motors responsible for chromosomal segregation in bacteria. Directionality in these motors is governed by interactions between specialized sequence‐recognition modules (SpoIIIE‐γ/FtsK‐γ) and highly skewed chromosomal sequences (SRS/KOPS). Using a new combination of ensemble and single‐molecule methods, we dissect the series of steps required for SRS localization and motor activation. First, we demonstrate that SpoIIIE/DNA association kinetics are sequence independent, with binding specificity being uniquely determined by dissociation. Next, we show by single‐molecule and modelling methods that hexameric SpoIIIE binds DNA non‐specifically and finds SRS by an ATP‐independent target search mechanism, with ensuing oligomerization and binding of SpoIIIE‐γ to SRS triggering motor stimulation. Finally, we propose a new model that provides an entirely new interpretation of previous observations for the origin of SRS/KOPS‐directed translocation by SpoIIIE/FtsK.

The magnetic properties and Mössbauer results for SnO2 doped with 57Fe are reviewed, and the values of isomer shift and quadrupole splitting are compared with the results obtained by ab initio calculations. It is concluded that the exchange interactions between oxygen defects and magnetic atoms are responsible for long range magnetic interactions of dilute Fe ions dispersed in SnO2. Fe atom precipitated clusters may be formed in highly Fe doped SnO2 samples by annealing at relatively high temperatures for several hours. The reduction of the particle size to nano-scale dimensions induces magnetization, which can be associated with oxygen defects. We have measured the nuclear inelastic scattering (NIS) spectra of Fe oxides, and 57Fe and (Co or Mn) doped SnO2 synthesized mainly by sol–gel methods and we have derived the vibration density of states (VDOS). The local phonons are sensitive to the presence of precipitated clusters.

Bovine herpesvirus (BoHV) type 1.1 (BoHV-1.1) causes repeated outbreaks of upper respiratory disease and abortion in cattle. The systemic effects of BoHV-1.1 in rabbits, using intranasal inoculation are reported. Female rabbits were divided into four groups and inoculated with the virus 10 days before mating, and at 15 or 22 days of pregnancy. Studies of the clinical signs, antibody production, virus isolation, and DNA detection as well as histological and immunohistochemical studies were carried out on lungs, kidneys, spleen, placentas, uteri and foetal tissues. All virus-inoculated animals developed respiratory clinical signs and a humoral response. BoHV-1.1 was isolated from nasal swabs and plasma rich in leukocytes, and viral DNA was detected in blood, dead foetuses and placentas. Histopathological lesions were found in the respiratory tract and some placentas and foetuses were immunohistochemically positive. Intranasal inoculation might be useful to study the systemic effects of BoHV-1.1 infection in the rabbit model.
Gregarious versus individualistic behavior in Vicsek swarms and the onset of first-order phase transitions
Gregarious versus individualistic behavior in Vicsek swarms and the onset of first-order phase transitions
Baglietto, Gabriel; Albano, Ezequiel Vicente; Candia, Julián Marcelo
The standard Vicsek model (SVM) is a minimal non-equilibrium model of self-propelled particles that appears to capture the essential ingredients of critical flocking phenomena. In the SVM, particles tend to align with each other and form ordered flocks of collective motion; however, perturbations controlled by a noise term lead to a noisedriven continuous order–disorder phase transition. In this work, we extend the SVM by introducing a parameter α that allows particles to be individualistic instead of gregarious, i.e. to choose a direction of motion independently of their neighbors. By focusing on the small-noise regime, we show that a relatively small probability of individualistic motion (around 10%) is sufficient to drive the system from a Vicsek-like ordered phase to a disordered phase. Despite the fact that the α-extended model preserves the O(n) symmetry and the interaction range, as well as the dimensionality of the underlying SVM, this novel phase transition is found to be discontinuous (first order), an intriguing manifestation of the richness of the non-equilibrium flocking/swarming phenomenon.
Slim SUSY
Slim SUSY
Arganda Carreras, Ernesto; Díaz Cruz, J. Lorenzo; Szynkman, Alejandro Andrés
he new SM-like Higgs boson discovered recently at the LHC, with mass mh≃125GeV, as well as the direct LHC bounds on the mass of superpartners, which are entering into the TeV range, suggest that the minimal surviving supersymmetric extension of the SM (MSSM), should be characterized by a heavy SUSY-breaking scale. Several variants of the MSSM have been proposed to account for this result, which vary according to the accepted degree of fine-tuning. We propose an alternative scenario here, Slim SUSY, which contains sfermions with multi-TeV masses and gauginos/higgsinos near the EW scale, but it includes the heavy MSSM Higgs bosons (H0, A0, H±) near the EW scale too. We discuss first the formulation and constraints of the Slim SUSY scenario, and then identify distinctive heavy Higgs signals that could be searched at the LHC, within scenarios with the minimal number of superpartners with masses near the EW scale.

Egg parasitoids of Edessa meditabunda (Fabricius) (Pentatomidae) in lettuce crop. This study evaluated the occurrence of parasitoids in eggs of the stink bug, Edessa meditabunda (Fabricius, 1794) (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) found on lettuce crop in Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Samples were collected in the vegetable garden “Cheiro Verde”, in the municipality of Tangará da Serra, in curly lettuce. A bed of lettuce was selected randomly, where the eggs of E. meditabunda were collected. Five-hundred and seventy eight eggs of E. meditabunda were collected, 86.3% of them parasitized by Telenomus podisi Ashmead, 1893 (Hymenoptera, Platygastridae), Trissolcus urichi Crawford, 1913 (Hymenoptera, Platygastridae) and Neorileya albipes Girault, 1913 (Hymenoptera, Eurytomidae), representing respectively 57.0%, 38.2% and 4.8% of the emerged individuals. This is the first record of these three species parasitizing eggs of E. meditabunda in lettuce.

Magnin, Lucia Angelica
An initial classification was done considering their shape and sizes. This article is focused in one of the defined classes. Contextual information is given and a visibility GIS analysis is performed with the location of the structures as the point of view. The emerged patterns suggest the existence of a visual organization of space that relates the stone structures scattered in the landscape.

The protention-retention asymmetry in Husserl's conception of time-consciousness
The protention-retention asymmetry in Husserl's conception of time-consciousness; La asimetría de la protención-retención en la concepción del tiempo-consciencia de Husserl
Dimitriu, Cristian
In this paper I shall try to clarify Husserl's conception of time-consciousness. In particular, I try to explain what exactly the asymmetry between protention and retention consists in. I argue (i) that Rodemeyer's understanding of the protention-retention relationship, as developed, seems misleading, mainly for two reasons: first, it does not take into account that the 'now' has duration; second, she conceives the relation between protention and retention as symmetric, (ii) that the asymmetry between protention and retention could be better understood if we could not only take into account the influence that retention and affect have on protention, but also if we could take into consideration the conceptual difference between surprise and disappointment. This difference, I suggest, reveals new ways to understand the protention-retention asymmetry.; En este artículo intentaré clarificar la concepción del tiempo-consciencia que defiende Husserl.
Por otro lado, se destacan algunas particularidades del trabajo grupal mediado por tecnologías.; ICTs offer many opportunities today to generate group work situations based on constructivism. The article focuses attention on the work of small groups of students in the context of virtual environments. Study participants were 109 students taught graduate courses in distance mode. Students were formed into 26 groups, each of which had a forum and a wiki. After completion of the work answered two questions in which they were asked to identify themselves qualities, attitudes or actions that would have helped or hindered the group work. The results present a system of categories that classify a variety of attitudes, actions and qualities identified by subjects as favoring either group work or as barriers to harmonious functioning. The findings highlight two points. On one hand, the importance of the operation of the groups is held from the outside by the same teaching. On the other hand, highlights some particularities technology mediated group work.

After ingestion, the epithelium of the small intestine is responsible for assimilating large amounts of nutrients such as amino acids, sugars and fatty acids. Soluble lipid binding proteins fulfill a determining role in this process, especially protecting the tissue integrity against the detergent-like effect of fatty acids from the diet. Two proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids are expressed in enterocytes, IFABP and LFABP, whose specific functions are still poorly understood, or the reason for the need of two apparently equivalent proteins. Our laboratory has focused on the comparative study of these two proteins using structural variants and biochemical, biophysical, and molecular and cellular biology approaches. Thus, the molecular determinants responsible for the interaction with membranes were defined for each protein, their ligand transfer mechanism and the factors that modulate these properties. More recently, these assays have been extended to cell culture studies which correlate the expression of these proteins with cytokine secretion, cell proliferation and differentiation. The study of these proteins is of great importance due to their potential as therapeutic targets and their usefulness in the diagnosis of tissue injury.; Após a ingestão, o epitélio do intestino delgado é responsável pela assimilação de uma grande quantidade de nutrientes, tais como aminoácidos, glicídios e ácidos graxos. Trilobites tremadocianos en facies de lutitas oscuras del miembro alfarcito (Formación Santa Rosita), Quebrada de Moya, Jujuy, Argentina; Tremadocian trilobites from dark shale facies of the alfarcito member (Santa Rosita Formation), Quebrada de Moya, Jujuy, Argentina
Tortello, Marcelo Franco; Zeballo, Fernando Javier; Esteban, Susana Beatriz
Trilobites. Ordovícico Inferior. Quebrada de Moya. Jujuy. Argentina.; The Quebrada de Moya constitutes a distinctive locality of the Santa Rosita Formation (uppermost Furongian–lowermost Ordovician) in the Quebrada de Humahuaca (Sierra de Tilcara, Cordillera Oriental of Jujuy, Argentina). The trilobites Leptoplastides marianus (Hoek), Parabolinella sp., Hapalopleura acantha Malanca and Brandán, and Asaphellus sp. are described from the dark shale facies of the upper part of the Alfarcito Member. A grainstone interstratified in the mudstones contains a low-diversity conodont assemblage of the Cordylodus angulatus Zone (lower Tremadocian). The Ordovician age of the section is confirmed, in addition, by the record of the graptolite Rhabdinopora flabelliformis ssp. in a sandstone underlying the studied levels. The dark shales accumulated by suspension fall-out during periods of maximum flooding, in a reducing, distal offshore marine environment. The trilobite fauna is largely dominated by L. marianus. The upper part of the Alfarcito Member does not show dark facies in other sectors of the Sierra de Tilcara. The sedimentologic characters of the section described, the low diversity of the conodont assemblage, and the scarcity of agnostoid trilobites may be indicative of a partial isolation of the basin.

A new fossil conifer wood —Brachyoxylon currumilii sp. nov.— is described from the Lower—Middle Jurassic of Chubut Province (Argentina). The specimens were collected at a locality where the Cañadón Asfalto Formation is exposed, in the vicinity of the Cerro Cóndor village. The studied wood is characterized by mixed pitting in radial tracheid walls (predominantly uniseriate), araucarioid cross fields, low uniseriate rays and the absence of resin canals. The use of transmitted light and epifluorescence microscopy together with SEM imaging allowed the identification of additional characters such as the presence of pitting with torus-margo and compression wood. These characters are discussed in terms of their systematic relevance. On these grounds, the systematic affinity of the studied wood is discussed and linked to the extinct conifer family Cheirolepidiaceae, one of the dominant plant groups during the Jurassic and Cretaceous in Patagonia.; Se describe una nueva especie de madera fósil de conífera, Brachyoxylon currumilii sp. nov., del Jurásico Inferior a Medio de la provincia de Chubut, Argentina.

Aim: Taken into consideration that the deficiency of calcium (Ca) in the diet is a common problem, the aim of this work was to study the chicken eggshell as Ca source at home. It was evaluated: (1) different mechanisms to process eggshells and find an easy way to determine the required amount of Ca at home and; (2) the flavor and the texture for eggshell fortified food. Methods: Chemical and mechanical methods of eggshell processing were evaluated. Changes in flavor and texture were evaluated in volunteers coordinated by a professional chef. Results: A single eggshell contains 2.07 0.18 g of Ca; therefore half an eggshell could provide the amount of Ca needed by adult human beings per day. The best way to use chicken eggshell as Ca dietary supplement is powdered to add to bread, pizza or spaghetti as there were small changes in texture and no changes in flavor.

On these last ones, they appear after the fi rst feeding and consist in pigments accumulation of phagocytic cells that associate with sinusoid and/or lymphoid centres on spleen, liver and the pronefros. These have been used as pollution bioindicators on fi sh. The skate, Sympterygia bonapartii (Müller & Henle, 1841), is a usual specimen from Bahía Blanca’s estuary, ecosystem that has suff ered diff erent environmental impact for the past 15 years. This is a bentonic oviparous condictrius which lays eggs in the estuary at the end of spring and summer. Due its bentonic habits, it’s considered a fi ne model to monitor the men’s impact on the estuarial ecosystem. The main objective of this research was to rehearse the use of the spleen and liver’s CPs of Sympterygia bonapartii as environmental bioindicators. This was made following a model of control treatment that takes Bahía San Blas as a referential control area. The histological structure of CPs in spleen and liver of S. bonapartii was determined. After this analysis, the possible qualitative and cuantitative diff erences due to environmental or no environmental infl uences were compared. A number of 52 individuals were analyzed from which 27 (20 females and 7 males) were brought from Bahía Blanca’s estuary. The other 25 individuals (16 females and 9 males) were captured in Bahía San Blas.

Considering the multiple factors involved in these processes (ovulation / inflammation), the alteration of one or more components may contribute to the pathogenesis of reproductive diseases as cystic ovarian disease (COD), one of the most common reproductive disorders in dairy cattle. This disease causes considerable economic losses for livestock. Ciudadanía y derechos fundamentales de las personas mayores: de las políticas gerontológicas al derecho de la vejez; Citizenship and human rights for old people: from gerontological policies to elder law
Dabove, Maria Isolina
This paper inquires about the problems related to the aging paradigms that have been used so far in social policy and law. It also explores the paths currently required for a gerontological perspective of positive aging. Methodology used was based in integrativism theories of law and policy which recognize four dimensions of analysis: historical background, sociological, normative and evaluative. In the current era of globalization, the negative discrimination due to age cannot be reversed by the mere implementation of public gerontological policies. We need to develop a model of citizenship based on a newspecialty: Elder law supported by Human Rights.
