My intention is to explore how their extraction practices involve a constant flow of relations with a living space, manifested through the daily trade of energy, affects and substances. These exchanges have a double effect in the work with salt: to avoid the diseases that some beings of the environment can cause when they feel threatened, and to stimulate the production of the mineral through the transfer of fuerza and suerte. In the commented area, the salt extraction, like other activities that take place in (and with) the landscape, is organized according to a local ontology that affirms that all things on earth are alive and interrelated. In resonance with other researchs of the argentinian Puna and the Andes, my objective is to present an ethnographic concept of production that is defined by the inseparability of the issues of the cosmos from the controversies of ethics and politics, as well as the economic and material needs of the vital and affective processes of the world.

Semiclassical strong-field theory of phase delays in ω-2ω above-threshold ionization

CONICET Digital -

Semiclassical strong-field theory of phase delays in ω-2ω above-threshold ionization Arbo, Diego; López, Sebastián David; Burgdörfer, Joachim Phase and time delays of atomic above-threshold ionization were recently experimentally explored in an ω-2ω setting [Zipp, Optica 1, 361 (2014)2334-253610.1364/OPTICA.1.000361]. The phases of wave packets ejected from argon by a strong 2ω pulse were probed as a function of the relative phase of a weaker ω probe pulse. Numerical simulations solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE) displayed a sensitive dependence of the doubly differential momentum distribution on the relative phase between the ω and 2ω fields. Moreover, a surprisingly strong variation of the extracted phase delays on the intensity of the probe pulse was found. We present a semiclassical strong-field description of the phase delays in the emission of electrons in an ω-2ω setting and apply it to atomic hydrogen. Nonperturbative effects in both the 2ω pump and the ω probe field are included. The semiclassical description allows tracing phase delays to path interferences between emission during different points in time of emission within the temporal unit cell of the two-color laser field. We find good agreement between the semiclassical saddle-point approximation, the full strong-field approximation (SFA), and previous results applicable in the perturbative limit of probe fields. We show that the RABBIT-like perturbative description of phase delays breaks down for stronger fields and higher-energy electron emission. In this regime, characterization of the ionization signal requires an entire ensemble of phase delays δi(E) with i=1,2,... the difference in photon numbers of the strong 2ω field involved in the interfering paths. Comparison between SFA and TDSE calculations reveals the influence of the Coulomb field even in this strong-field scenario.

CONICET Digital -

This paper analyses the role of teachers in the collection of information on folk traditions and knowledge in the framework of the National Folklore Survey of 1921. This was promoted by the National Council of Education and implemented through the socalled Láinez Schools. In particular, the instructions and records produced from this survey are discussed. This allows us to observe how the national education system constituted a space for gathering information on a large scale and from the most remote localities of the country, mobilizing significant numbers of collaborators distributed in different regions. As this paper attempts to show, teachers played a fundamental role in collecting and organizing data in the places where they worked, participating in networks of exchange, and providing information at the national level. This also allows us to take into account another facet of teachers' activities, beyond classroom work.

Anatomy of the floral nectaries of selected species of Gardenieae (Rubiaceae)

CONICET Digital -

Anatomy of the floral nectaries of selected species of Gardenieae (Rubiaceae) Judkevich, Marina Daniela; Salas, Roberto Manuel; González, Ana María Rubiaceae is one of the five most species-rich families of Angiosperm, its flowers are characterized by a nectariferous disc surrounding the base of the style; however, there are almost no studies on anatomy of these structures in the family. The aim of this study was to describe for the first time the anatomy of the floral nectaries in the tribe Gardenieae (Rubiaceae). Flowers from Cordiera concolor, Genipa americana, Randia calycina, Randia ferox, Randia heteromera, Randia micracantha, and Tocoyena formosa were collected, photographed, and processed using conventional techniques for observation with optical and scanning electron microscopies. In all species the nectary is differentiated histologically into epidermis, nectary and sub-nectary parenchyma, and vascular bundles. Nectar is exuded via nectarostomata. The nectaries have reproductive function, and are structural and mesenchymal during the floral stage. Whereas after corolla has fallen they are persistent nectaries, with post-floral secretion and extranuptial function.

Cingulata (Mammalia, Xenarthra) from the type fauna of the “Friasian” South American Land-Mammal age, Alto Río Cisnes (Río Frías Formation, Burdigalian-Langhian Age, Miocene), Chile

CONICET Digital -

Cingulata (Mammalia, Xenarthra) from the type fauna of the “Friasian” South American Land-Mammal age, Alto Río Cisnes (Río Frías Formation, Burdigalian-Langhian Age, Miocene), Chile Gonzalez Ruiz, Laureano Raul Cingulates (“armadillos and glyptodonts”), is a group of xenarthran mammals characterized mainly by the presence of an armor of articulated osteoderms which are usually used for systematic recognition, and which are found in most fossiliferous localities of South, Central and southern North America since the Eocene. The aim of this contribution is to describe the cingulates (“armadillos and glyptodonts”) from Roth's collection that have been previously mentioned, which have been remain unpublished for more than 100 years, and are part of the collection that was used for the recognition of the formerly “Etage Friaséen” of the Miocene of South America. The cingulate osteoderms described herein are assigned to 1) Vetelia puncta (MLP 16–171, MLP 16–172, MLP 16–174) given the osteoderms's foramina in the sulcus that delimits the longitudinal central figure, and at the lateral margins of the osteoderm; 2) Proeutatus cf. deleo (MLP 16–171, MLP 16–172, MLP 16–174) given that the osteoderms have no evident keel, and no foramina on the exposed surface; and 3) Eucinepeltus cf. petesatus (MLP 16–171, MLP 16–172, MLP 16–173) given that the osteoderms of the cephalic shield have no figures on the exposed surface. After the revision of the Roth collection and the literature, the association of cingulates from all fossil localities and fossil levels of Río Cisnes Formation at Alto Río Cisnes (Chile) includes the armadillos Peltephilidae (a potential new taxon), Stegotherium caroloameghinoi, Prozaedyus sp., Vetelia puncta, Proeutatus cf. deleo, Proeutatus sp., and the glyptodonts Propalaehoplophorinae gen. et sp. indet., and Eucinepeltus cf. petesatus.

Career decision self-efficacy Item Bank: A Simulation study

CONICET Digital -

Career decision self-efficacy Item Bank: A Simulation study Azpilicueta, Ana Estefanía; Cupani, Marcos; Ghio, Fernanda Belén; Moran, Valeria Estefania; Garrido, Sebastian Jesús; Bruzzone, Manuel The transformation of the current world of work, determined by technological advances, affects and challenges the career decision-making process. To face these changes, the career self-management model, derived from social cognitive career theory, offers an optimal framework that allows studying the career adaptive behaviors that favor the preparation for career decision-making. In order to obtain a measure for the core construct, career decision-making self-efficacy, we elaborated an item bank from the selection of reagents from two scales widely used in the field for its estimation. Item analysis was performed from the item response theory. The results evidenced the unidimensionality of the item pool, with difficulty indexes and ability levels covering most of the measured continuum. As regard reliability indexes (persons and items), we observed that the allocation of persons and items might be reproduced in a predictable way. Global fit of items was suitable in most of them. We also performed two analyses of the evidence of the validity of the scores obtained through the Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy-Item Bank. We carried out a simulation study to determine the real level of ability of the subjects, providing information on the quality of the item bank developed to accurately assess career decision self-efficacy. Thus, we conducted a concurrent validity evidence study to establish test-criterion relationships between career decision self-efficacy and the more significant outcome variables of the career decision-making process: career decision, career indecision, and decisional anxiety. In summary, we developed, calibrated, and validated the first item bank to estimate the central construct of the career decision-making process, which is the first step to develop a Computerized Adaptive Test. Based on this technology, personalized evaluations of specific skills or traits such as career decision self-efficacy can be obtained and incorporated into computer-assisted career guidance systems.

The Jewish Youth in times of political radicalization

CONICET Digital -

The Jewish Youth in times of political radicalization Kahan, Emmanuel Nicolas Although the Six-Day War in June 1967 was neither the first nor the most relevant violent outbreak in the Arab-Israeli conflict, it was extensively treated in Argentine public debates and widely analyzed as an exceptional event. As different works on Jewish life in Argentina have shown, the country’s Jewish presence during the first half of the twentieth century was primarily challenged by right-wing nationalist organizations. This situation changed during the 1960s and especially after the June War. In its aftermath, the debates began circling around the legitimacy of the State of Israel and Zionism and a growing number of the discussions’ participants belonged to different sections of the national left. This article aims to reveal how these years were perceived by some of Argentina’s most outstanding intellectuals – Abelardo Castillo, José Itzigsohn, Emilio Troise, León Perez, Pedro Orgambide, Horacio Verbitsky, Alfredo Varela, and León Rozitchner – and how they developed their dissimilar views on the State of Israel. It also intends to show how a spatially distant war served to formulate their positions on international politics as well as to situate themselves in the local political agenda. Finally, the article seeks to sharpen the understanding of the tensions this outbreak in the Arab-Israeli conflict generated between the organizations of the national left and the different protagonists of Jewish life in Argentina.

The aim of this article is to examine the relations of the Jesuits of Paraguay with the Inquisition, based on two specific cases that occurred in the phase prior to the creation of this Jesuit province. The protagonists are Fathers Manuel Ortega and Francisco de Angulo. The first, belonging to the first triad that arrived in the Guayrá region, was accused of solicitation and the other, as the first superior of the mission of Tucumán, was appointed commissioner of the Holy Office. We analyse the events and actions in which they took part, as well as the causes of the rapprochement between the institutions, in order to question the existence of a correlation of events which were not alien to their respective centres of dependence, but with their own American nuances.

Helminth community in the Llanos frog, Lepidobatrachus llanensis (Ceratophryidae), from the Dry Chaco

CONICET Digital -

Helminth community in the Llanos frog, Lepidobatrachus llanensis (Ceratophryidae), from the Dry Chaco Hamann, Mónika Inés; Gonzalez, Cynthya Elizabeth; Duré Pitteri, Marta Inés; Palomas Alaniz, Yanina Soledad The present study predicts that helminth community diversity and parasite transmission are influenced by host behavior and its habitat. This prediction was tested by analyzing for the first time the helminth community of Lepidobatrachus llanensis, an aquatic species that inhabits exclusively ephemeral water bodies in the Dry Chaco ecoregion. In the drought periods, L. llanensis burrows underground and forms a cocoon to minimize water loss, emerging again in the rainy season (e.g., in summer months). A total of 21 frogs was examined for parasites. Parasite community structure was analyzed using helminth parasite richness, diversity, and abundance. The helminth community of this frog consisted of 17 species, composed mostly of platyhelminth species (76%), followed by nematodes (24%). Ophiotaenia sp. was most prevalent (71%, confidence interval [CI]: 51.4–90.6%), followed by Choledocystus elegans (57%, CI: 35.8–78.2%). Infected frogs harbored a maximum of seven helminth species. At the infracommunity level, the mean species richness was 4.24 ± 1.79 per infected frog. Parasites were found in all major organs, with highest prevalence in the body cavity. Helminth species showed a typical aggregated pattern of distribution with unequal abundances. Parasite transmission to the frog host occurs by oral ingestion and skin penetration. As predicted, we found that the composition of the parasite community of this aquatic frog included multiple helminths, including parasitic species characteristic of both aquatic and terrestrial life cycles, with greater occurrence of trematodes that likely benefit from seasonal host aggregation during the rainy period associated with their reproductive strategies and by environmental factors such as seasonal dwelling in dry soil. This behavior in an otherwise aquatic frog enables infections by nematodes (L3) with a terrestrial life cycle absent from other aquatic frogs from South America.

This article reflects on the articulation of cultural policies and artistic projects for social inclusion in the province of Buenos Aires.

Cold-adapted strains as plant growth-promoting bacteria on soybean seeds and biocontrol agents against Macrophomina phaseolina Sarli, Dinorah Anabella; Teixeira Gomes, Gisele; Reznikov, Sebastian; Acosta, Federico Francisco; Fariña, Julia Ines; Delgado, Osvaldo Daniel; Sanchez, Leandro Arturo Aim: The aim was to characterize cold-adapted bacteria by testing their PGP features and antagonistic activity against Macrophomina phaseolina, both in vitro and coating soybean seeds (Glycine max [L.] Merr.). Methods and results: Burkholderia gladioli MB39, Serratia proteamaculans 136 and Serratia proteamaculans 137 were evaluated. In vitro tests showed that S. proteamaculans 136 and 137 produce siderophore and indole-acetic acid (IAA), solubilize phosphate and fix nitrogen. Additionally, B. gladioli MB39 and S. proteamaculans 137 showed hydrolase activity and potent antifungal effects. The biocontrol efficacy over soybean seeds was evaluated using in vitro and greenhouse methods by immersing seeds into each bacterial suspension. As a result, S. proteamaculans 136 has improved the performance in all the seed germination evaluated parameters. In addition, S. proteamaculans 137 and B. gladioli MB39 strongly inhibited M. phaseolina, reducing the infection index values to 10% and 0%, respectively. Conclusion: Serratia proteamaculans 136, 137 and Burkholderia gladioli MB39 showed plant growth promotion features and inhibition of Macrophomina phaseolina infection by producing different antifungal compounds. Significance and impact of the study: Our results reinforce the application of cold-adapted Serratia proteamaculans and Burkholderia gladioli bacterial strains as candidates for developing microbial formulation to promote plant growth and guarantee antifungal protection in soybean crops.

A glimpse into the DNA virome of the unique “living fossil” Welwitschia mirabilis

CONICET Digital -

A glimpse into the DNA virome of the unique “living fossil” Welwitschia mirabilis Debat, Humberto Julio; Bejerman, Nicolas Here, we report the identification and characterization of four novel DNA viruses from Welwitschia mirabilis transcriptomic and genomic datasets. Complete circular virus-like sequences with affinity to members of the Caulimoviridae and Geminiviridae families were detected and characterized from Welwitschia mirabilis genomic data. The two newly members of the Caulimoviridae family have been tentatively named as Welwitschia mirabilis virus 1 and 2 (WMV1-WMV2); whereas the two identified geminiviruses were named as Welwitschia mirabilis associated geminivirus A and B (WMaGVA-WMaGVB). Phylogenetic analysis suggests that WMV1-2 belong to a proposed genus of Caulimoviridae-infecting gymnosperms. WMaGVA-B are phylogenetically related with both mastreviruses and capulaviruses and likely represent a distinct evolutionary lineage within geminiviruses. Additionally, we detected several endogenous virus-like elements (EVE) linked to the discovered viruses in the recently reported W. mirabilis genome, suggesting a shared ancient evolutionary history of these viruses and the Welwithschia.

Multitarget Activities of Müller Glial Cells and Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor-Related Protein 1 in Proliferative Retinopathies

CONICET Digital -

Multitarget Activities of Müller Glial Cells and Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor-Related Protein 1 in Proliferative Retinopathies Sanchez, Maria Cecilia; Chiabrando, Gustavo Alberto Müller glial cells (MGCs), the main glial component of the retina, play an active role in retinal homeostasis during development and pathological processes. They strongly monitor retinal environment and, in response to retinal imbalance, activate neuroprotective mechanisms mainly characterized by the increase of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). Under these circumstances, if homeostasis is not reestablished, the retina can be severely injured and GFAP contributes to neuronal degeneration, as they occur in several proliferative retinopathies such as diabetic retinopathy, sickle cell retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity. In addition, MGCs have an active participation in inflammatory responses releasing proinflammatory mediators and metalloproteinases to the extracellular space and vitreous cavity. MGCs are also involved in the retinal neovascularization and matrix extracellular remodeling during the proliferative stage of retinopathies. Interestingly, low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) and its ligand α2-macroglobulin (α2M) are highly expressed in MGCs and they have been established to participate in multiple cellular and molecular activities with relevance in retinopathies. However, the exact mechanism of regulation of retinal LRP1 in MGCs is still unclear. Thus, the active participation of MGCs and LRP1 in these diseases, strongly supports the potential interest of them for the design of novel therapeutic approaches. In this review, we discuss the role of LRP1 in the multiple MGCs activities involved in the development and progression of proliferative retinopathies, identifying opportunities in the field that beg further research in this topic area. Summary Statement MGCs and LRP1 are active players in injured retinas, participating in key features such as gliosis and neurotoxicity, neovascularization, inflammation, and glucose control homeostasis during the progression of ischemic diseases, such as proliferative retinopathies.

Here we present the routes that we are building as teachers, students, women from the optional seminars entitled Critical Physical Geography and Natures of the Anthropocene; Counter-cartographies of neoliberalism. Social struggles and movements in defense of territories and life; and, Politics of the landscape and (in)justices: production and shadows -colonial, racial, patriarchal- of the landscape, from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities (FFyH), National University of Córdoba (UNC), together with members of the Assemblies of the Paravachasca and Punilla Valleys, in the Córdoba province (Argentina). The starting point was not the extension, but the struggle itself from the Assemblies questioning us in our daily practices in and from the university. In these pages, we share the walking in the territories from the classrooms of the FFyH to the organization of a route with students to be present at the Acampe por el monte (Camp for the forest), organized by the Paravachasca Assembly. Knowing what is happening, listening to the voices of those who are in the territory putting their bodies and their lives to resist and re-exist, gave rise to the movement of finding ourselves, of allowing ourselves to be affected by what we have lived in the Camp and (re)think in common the ways to create a framework committed to environmental defense from and in the territories. From the participation in the Acampe por el Monte became “In defense of the territories and the forest: interseminar integrative tour-workshop and joint actions with defenders of the environment in Punilla and Paravachasca” as an extension activity co-organized with the Socio-environmental Assembly San Roque Despierta, self-convened neighbors of the Punilla Valley and in dialogue with the Paravachasca Assembly and self-convened neighbors of Paravachasca. From these experiences, we weave what we understand by extension and we are open to the possibility of rethinking the university and the ways of building knowledge.

Modeling excited-state molecular dynamics beyond the Born–Oppenheimer regime

CONICET Digital -

Modeling excited-state molecular dynamics beyond the Born–Oppenheimer regime Nelson, Tammie R.; Fernández Alberti, Sebastián; Tretiak, Sergei Nonadiabatic molecular dynamics is the method of choice for modeling a wide range of excited-state phenomena. Although much progress has been made in improving the usability and efficiency of ground-state calculations, there are still challenges in translating this advance to the excited state.

Filosofía feminista y giro afectivo: Una respuesta ex ante

CONICET Digital -

The affective turn developed as a matrix of conceptual discussion during the passage between the 20th and 21st centuries and, among many other debates, argued in favor of the productivity of the distinction between affect and emotion. The objective of this article is to point out the type of intervention that feminist philosophy deployed on this issue before the irruption of this tradition and, secondly, to establish what content can be given to the idea of affective agency under this framework. The core of the argument leads us to go through a series of fundamental interventions by the feminist philosopher Iris Marion Young who, according to my assessment, scrutinized some of the problematic political effects of certain arguments that, to this day, form the heart of the affective turn in its most orthodox version.

Characterization of lactic acid bacteria isolated from the poultry intestinal environment with anti-Salmonella activity in vitro

CONICET Digital -

Characterization of lactic acid bacteria isolated from the poultry intestinal environment with anti-Salmonella activity in vitro Hidalgo, Victor Maximiliano; Babot, Jaime Daniel; Fernández, María Magdalena; Perez Chaia, Adriana Beatriz; Audisio, Marcela Carina; Apella, Maria Cristina The purpose of this research was the genotypic identification of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), isolated from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of healthy adult birds, and the study of their safety regarding antibiotic resistance, physiological and functional properties involved in the colonization of the GIT of poultry, and Salmonella exclusion, as members of a potential mixed probiotic supplement for poultry. The nucleotidic sequence from Lactobacillus crispatus P1, L. animalis L3, and Enterococcus faecium CRL 1385 (ex-J96) showed 100, 99.8, and 99.3% identity with L. crispatus DSM 20584 T, Ligilactobacillus salivarius ATCC 11741 T, and E. faecium ATCC 19434 T, respectively. These strains showed no resistance to relevant antibiotics usually administered to animals proposed by the European Food Safety Authority. They could endure the detrimental conditions of the gastrointestinal tract (pH 2.6 and oxgall 0.1 and 0.4% w/v). In an ex vivo assay, the LAB showed high adherence to the three sections of the GIT, reaching values higher than 70%. The adhesion to mucus was strain-dependent: L. crispatus CRL 1453 evidenced the highest adhesion (> 19%) while Lig. salivarius subsp. salivarius CRL 1417 and E. faecium CRL 1385 adhered to a lower extent (> 9 and 2%, respectively). Moreover, the LAB elicited remarkable anti-Salmonella activity, taking into account that they could inhibit elevated counts of different Salmonella serovars, especially the host-specific serovars S. Gallinarum and S. Pullorum (up to 8 log CFU/mL decrease in Salmonella counts).
