El intento de copamiento de La Tablada (1989): Represión, Justicia y Derechos Humanos; The attempt to take la tablada (1989): Repression, justice and human rights
Scocco, Marianela
The repression was excessive and violent and left several people injured, dead and disappeared. This article proposes to analyze the readings of the attack on La Tablada and the course of justice in this regard, emphasizing the violations of human rights produced, the role of the State, the consequences in the modification of repressive laws and change in the correlation of forces in the governments / military relationship.

Aims: to characterize, by means of univariate and multivariate approaches, the Th1 and Th2 responses during the different phases of tumor immunoediting. Materials & Methods: we used a multivariate principal component analysis applied to analyze the joint behavior of serum concentrations of IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-10 and IL-4, during the different phases of tumor immunoediting, in CBi/L mice challenged with M-406 mammary adenocarcinoma. Results & Conclusions: Animals in equilibrium phase showed the widest variations in values of the four cytokines. In this experimental model the role of IFN-γ would be related to tumor growth and progression, while IL-10 would participate in the antitumor immune response. Lay abstract: Breast cancer is a complex, multifactor disease that affects about 10% of women in industrialized countries. The immune system has the ability to monitor the appearance of tumors, but the tumors have the ability to escape such rejection. For this reason, in order to design different therapeutic strategies, it is important to know the different mechanisms that take place when a tumor grows or when it is rejected. Here we sought to elucidate some of these mechanisms

The purpose of this work is to provide solutions for mass retrofitting of building envelope in residential areas at urban level. An innovative methodology is developed that identify the different construction materials of the urban-building envelope in large-scale to estimate energy saving by recycling them with energy efficiency criteria. It is proposed the digital processing of SPOT 6 satellite and aerial images through semi-automatic classifications. In this case, the roofs are classified, the quality of the results is determined, the most appropriate processing is defined, and with these results envelope improvement strategies are applied for mass treatment at urban level. The work was carried out in the residential area of La Plata department, Argentina. The results showed that the classifications with aerial images achieve good precision for the complexity addressed (70%). This allowed estimating energy savings which can be seen on urban maps easily showing the annual energy saving potentialities for heating between 2000 and 3000 kWh/year per house. In effect, the use of remote sensors applied to the detailed and massive analysis of urban sectors provides a little disseminated knowledge of interest in our region. In turn, this methodology can be applied to cities with similar characteristics.
Influence of melatonin and sexual hormones on the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen in the adrenal cortex of a seasonal breeder (Lagostomus maximus)

The viscacha (Lagostomus maximus) is a rodent of nocturnal habits, whose physiology and behavior vary according to modifications of environmental signals. The objective of this study is to assess the influence of melatonin and sexual hormones on the viscacha adrenal cortex proliferative activity through the immunohistochemical detection of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) along with hormonal determinations. PCNA expression was studied in male viscachas to assess the effect of melatonin administration, castration and the annual reproductive cycle. In female viscachas, PCNA was studied in nonpregnant and pregnant viscachas. PCNA expression was observed in adrenocortical cells (PCNA-A) and endothelial cells (PCNA-E). Melatonin-administered animals showed a significantly lower number of PCNA-A compared to the control group. No significant difference could be established in the number of PCNA-A and PCNA-E between castrated and control animals. However, the morphometric analysis showed an increase in the size of the cortex of castrated animals, along with other cytological features. Significant differences in serum testosterone levels were observed during the male viscacha reproductive cycle, with the lowest levels encountered during the regression period (winter). Male viscachas exhibited a significantly high number of PCNA-A during late autumn and a high number of PCNA-E during winter. In females, hormonal determinations showed a peak of progesterone and estrogen during mid-pregnancy, along with a notably high number of PCNA-A and an increase in the number of PCNA-E. Our results suggest that proliferation in the adrenal cortex of the viscacha varies in relation to melatonin, sexual hormones and environmental conditions.

Comedores comunitarios: acceso a los alimentos y preparaciones posibles. Experiencias colectivas en la provincia de Buenos Aires; Soup Kitchens: Food Access and Feasible Food Preparations. Collective Experiences in the Buenos Aires Province
El acceso a alimentos frescosrequiere la sobrecarga de tareas en las mujeres.; Soup kitchens have emerged in Argentina as a spontaneous action to palliate nutritional needs since the late 1980s. Multiple food programs are involved in their funding, infrastructure, and supply. This paper aims to analyze soup kitchen's food preparation and their coordination with the state assistance provided to them. Establishing this relationship allows for identifying self-organization strategies used for cooking by women in charge of soup kitchens in marginal areas of the District of General Pueyrredon in 2020. This is a qualitative study. Through theoretical snowball sampling, in-depth interviews that were conducted with women responsible for soup kitchens. The main results show that food policies implementation modulates an inequality structure whereby many different social groups have access to poor feeding practices. The predominance of dry food supply reinforces monotonous and filling meals defined as tasty and magical. Women responsible for cooking are expected to improve these meals nutritionally. Access to fresh food implies work overload for such women.
Kingship in Syria-Palestine: Some comments regarding a recent publication
Kingship in Syria-Palestine: Some comments regarding a recent publication
Pfoh, Emanuel Oreste
Since the inception of modern ancient Near Eastern and Biblical studies in the nineteenth century, the institution of kingship, with the features comprising the monarchical practice and deeds, successions to the throne, etc., has been one of the central topics of historical enquiry in these disciplines. In effect, kings and rulers have been a most studied theme given the positivist nature of modern historical scholarship until the 1930s, with the appearance of the French Annales school in continental historiography widening the field to other analytical pursuits, especially since the 1960s. Ancient Near Eastern historiography not always catches up in time with the theoretical developments in general history studies and thus it is usual to witness approaches to the most recently excavated archaeological data or the most recently deciphered epigraphic materials still from rather positivist perspectives. The publication of Changing Faces of Kingship in Syria-Palestine 1500-500 BCE in 2018, edited by Agustinus Gianto and Peter Dubovský, offers then an opportunity to evaluate?albeit succinctly?this situation, assessing how much the modes of interpreting kingship have changed in ancient Near Eastern scholarship since the nineteenth century, but also exposing some analytical and conceptual issues in need of further study. Although it is not my wish to proceed with such a century-long comparison, one should nonetheless keep in mind this historiographical perspective.

Genetic factors and the immunologic response have been suggested to determine the susceptibility against the infection and the outcome of Chagas disease. In the present study, we analysed three IL17A genetic variants (rs4711998, rs8193036 and rs2275913) regarding the predisposition to Trypanosoma cruzi infection and the development of chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy (CCC) in different Latin American populations. A total of 2,967 individuals from Colombia, Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil, were included in this study. The individuals were classified as seronegative and seropositive for T. cruzi antigens, and this last group were divided into asymptomatic and CCC. For T. cruzi infection susceptibility, the IL17A rs2275913*A showed a significant association in a fixed-effect meta-analysis after a Bonferroni correction (P = 0.016, OR = 1.21, 95%CI = 1.06–1.41). No evidence of association was detected when comparing CCC vs. asymptomatic patients. However, when CCC were compared with seronegative individuals, it showed a nominal association in the meta-analysis (P = 0.040, OR = 1.20, 95%CI = 1.01–1.45). For the IL17A rs4711998 and rs8193036, no association was observed. In conclusion, our results suggest that IL17A rs2275913 plays an important role in the susceptibility to T. cruzi infection and could also be implicated in the development of chronic cardiomyopathy in the studied Latin American population.
Defusing Master Narratives: Decolonial, Insurgent, Gentle Moves in a Con-Text of Teacher Education and Educational Research
Defusing Master Narratives: Decolonial, Insurgent, Gentle Moves in a Con-Text of Teacher Education and Educational Research
Yedaide, Maria Marta; Porta Vazquez, Luis Gabriel
This article intends to share a very particular perspective on teacher education and educational research while asserting the inevitability, inescapability, of such local epistemological bias. It discusses the hermeneutic, narrative, decolonial and performative turns and their interplay with the geocultural and political conditions in a con-text which is acknowledged as highly productive (and strongly conditioning) of social meaning. On the basis of teaching and research experience, some insurgent, gentle moves have been designed as ethico-onto-epistemological gestures to experiment on concrete possibilities of fluidity and instability for master narratives. Far from naïvely believing in the “fall”, “end” or “breaking down” of these narratives, defusing them involves instead a positioning on language, narrative and discourse capable of devising provisional and changing patterns of contingent intelligibility which allow for greater exercise of civic sovereignty. Critical, decolonial and queer pedagogies actually constitute the core beliefs which—subjected to the constraints of contingency—are asked to perform this double role of both structuring and shattering grand narratives. It must be noted that this positioning has implied an explicit rejection of the use of passive voice and the (impersonalized) third person in writing this article. The choice of the pronoun “we” constitutes in itself a political gesture –an exercise of rhetoric prerogative, in the terms Segato (2019), Walsh (2011), and Yedaide (2017) propose—. In addition, we affiliate to the thesis which claims that separating the personal and the political constitutes a modern technology: a culture of the non-culture (Haraway, 1997), that is to say, a maneuver that conceals the necessary political bias present in all social products, even and especially when these are self-presented as merely technical. As to our use of English in writing—though apparently contradictory with the epistemic authority we defend—it must be read simply as a gesture manifesting willingness to engage in productive dialogue with peoples who do not speak Spanish. The choice of splitting the word “context” as “con-text” aims at raising awareness regarding the decisive influence that any setting exercises in meaning-making (a site should not be taken as merely ornamental or as landscape/ background but rather as an agent, productive in the construction of meaning, we argue.
Dynamics of chiral solitons driven by polarized currents in monoaxial helimagnets
Dynamics of chiral solitons driven by polarized currents in monoaxial helimagnets
Laliena, Victor; Bustingorry, Sebastián; Campo, Javier
Chiral solitons are one dimensional localized magnetic structures that are metastable in some ferromagnetic systems with Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interactions and/or uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. Though topological textures in general provide a very interesting playground for new spintronics phenomena, how to properly create and control single chiral solitons is still unclear. We show here that chiral solitons in monoaxial helimagnets, characterized by a uniaxial Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction, can be stabilized with external magnetic fields. Once created, the soliton moves steadily in response to a polarized electric current, provided the induced spin-transfer torque has a dissipative (nonadiabatic) component. The structure of the soliton depends on the applied current density in such a way that steady motion exists only if the applied current density is lower than a critical value, beyond which the soliton is no longer stable.

In the nations of the Southern Cone, the 1880s meant a census effort and inventories and collection of objects, the results of which were shown at the Universal Exhibitions at Barcelona and Paris. In relation to this, the statistical expert Gabriel Carrasco traveled in 1888 through the territories of northeast Argentina and arrived in Paraguay. The observations he made during his tour were put in writing in the form of letters, in which he poured a series of images and representations of the Paraguayan past and present. This article deals with studying them, using his Cartas de viaje as the main sources for analysis. The objective is to contribute to making explicit the links between expert knowledge, observation of reality, history and memory, and to highlight the performative and programmatic character present in the discourse of this nineteenth-century statistician.

This article explores the cultural intervention of the santafesino intellectual Alcides Greca (1889- 1956), developed in 1948, in Brazil. Our work focuses mainly on the singular perspective that Greca implemented in Bahianos and bandeirantes (1950) as the starting point of a catalogue of sensitive references (Ette, 2004), typical of a cultural traveler (Aguilar, Siskind 2002). We believe that this narrative represents a scriptural vehicle which interprets new social experiences (Antequera, 2020a), and whose main topic is the city. This article consists of three parts: the first is a discussion on the urban archetypes and artifacts measured by Greca. The second is an analysis of the autobiographical writing traces that contribute to the search of a combined legitimation of project and subject (Antelo 1998). The third, finally, consists of both an exploration of the credential letters carried by Greca in his journey through Brazil –his contributions to urbanism and municipal law–, and a review of the generous hosts that accompanied him.
Articaine interaction with phospholipid bilayers
Articaine interaction with phospholipid bilayers

Local anesthetics promote analgesia by interacting with excitable membranes. Articaine (ATC) has a unique composition among local anesthetics as it possesses a thiophene instead of the typical phenyl ring. Aiming to characterize the interaction of neutral articaine (nATC) with phospholipid membranes, we have employed a synergistic approach of experimental and computational techniques. Fluorescence measurements supported nATC partitioning into the membranes, since its intrinsic fluorescence anisotropy increased from 0.03 in water to 0.29 in the presence of egg phosphatidylcholine (EPC) liposomes, and the fluorescence of AHBA, a probe that monitors the water-membrane interface, was quenched by nATC. 1H NMR experiments revealed changes in the chemical shifts of articaine and EPC hydrogens after partitioning, and shorter T1 values of nATC hydrogens when inserted into the EPC vesicles. Contacts of nATC and the phospholipid polar head group were inferred from 2D-NOE. Taken together, these results indicate a superficial insertion of the nATC molecules inside EPC bilayers. This conclusion was confirmed by molecular dynamics simulations, which allowed the identification of the key interactions underlying the preferential location of nATC in the bilayer. Contrary to what is often stated (that articaine is a high lipophilic local anesthetic agent) our results place ATC among the hydrophilic ones, such as lidocaine, prilocaine, and mepivacaine, for which the water/membrane interface is the preferred location.

Natalucci, Ana Laura; Mate, Ernesto Pablo
Se sigue en el artículo una metodología cualitativa a partir del análisis de documentos institucionales, entrevistas y observaciones participantes.; The following work addresses the Social Emergency Law (LES) based on a series of still open questions related to the way in which the LES allowed progress in the institutionalization of the popular economy sector, what impact it had on its workers and why its sanction was achieved unlike the labor emergency law. The objective of this article is to analyze the LES as a strategy of the Confederation of Workers of the Popular Economy (CTEP) aimed at putting the popular economy as a public problem at the center of the debate, claiming the role of organizations as representative entities of the sector and achieving the implementation of the Complementary Social Salary as a device for creating wellness practices. The article follows a qualitative methodology based on the analysis of institutional documents, interviews and participant observations.
Molinari, Andrea; Patrucchi, Maria Leticia
Over the first years of the 21st century, the map of multilateral financial actors has shown great dynamism, especially with southern initiatives in the face of the weakening of traditional financial actors. South America was part of a vanguard in this agenda by promoting, among other initiatives, the creation of a new regional development bank: the Banco del Sur. Our analysis characterizes this initiative by describing and recognizing its current endogenous and exogenous limitations that stopped its implementation and emphasizing its design features. We compare it with both the consolidated banks that finance the South American region (IDB and CAF) and simultaneous prospering experiences (AIIB and NDB). We find in the Banco del Sur design a more innovative governance structure based upon a weakening regional political legitimacy that, however, coexists with traditional restrictions of the financial model of this type of institutions.

TIC y gobierno electrónico: Cooperación entre Corea del Sur y América del Sur; ICT and e-government: Cooperation between South Korea and South America
This paper addresses the development strategy of the information and communication technology industries of the Republic of Korea from the point of view of governmental policies —which derives in its position as one of the vanguard countries in terms of electronic government and which places the sector as central to the growth of its economy—, and also addresses the export of systems or components of electronic government —this understood within a wide range that includes: consultation, design, software, hardware, among others— to Latin American countries. It is argued here that intergovernmental cooperation aims to facilitate the entry of South Korean companies into Latin American markets.
A sport pedagogization: Benigno Rodríguez Jurado’s public figure, policies and discourses on physical culture and sports
Kopelovich, Pablo; Galak, Eduardo
In 1920s, in Argentina, was developed a schooling process of sports –that is, its inclusion in educational establishments–, and later, with the development of the 1940s, was the time of a pedagogization process of sports. With this theoretical positioning as a background, this paper analyzes the discourses of an important figure in this process, who’s political and sports career at the same time shows this processes passage: Benigno Rodríguez Jurado. It is especially interesting to understand his speeches about physical culture and sports, particularly those he performs as director of the Department of Physical Culture of the National University of La Plata. Regarding his idea of physical culture, it is observed that it is linked to health improvement, in line with other national and international meanings, referring to certain eugenic rhetoric. On the other hand, Rodríguez Jurado sports senses show a certain idealization of their practice, with a moralizing tone, finding tensions between school sports and federated sports. As its director, Benigno Rodríguez Jurado developed in the Department of Physical Culture, through Physical Education classes at the National College and the Secondary School of Ladies, a laboratory of ideas for schooling of sport, that is, its curricular inclusion, and then, in the General Directorate of Physical Education and Culture of the province of Buenos Aires, since 1940, to develop a pedagogization of sports.
Job loss and household labor supply adjustments in developing countries: Evidence from Argentina
Job loss and household labor supply adjustments in developing countries: Evidence from Argentina
Ciaschi, Matías Omar
Using longitudinal data for Argentina, this paper measures the labor supply reaction of different household members to a breadwinner’s job loss. Firm events and local unemployment shocks are exploited as exogenous sources of variation to estimate the causal effect. Our main findings show that job loss by the male household head has a significant and substantial effect on the labor supply response of other household members, both at the extensive and intensive margin. While we do not find any effect on daughters, female partners and sons increase their labor market participation. The latter are also more likely to drop out from the educational system. These results are stronger among economically vulnerable households.
Maternal intake of alpha-lipoic acid prevents development of symptoms associated with a fructose-rich diet in the male offspring in Wistar rats
Maternal intake of alpha-lipoic acid prevents development of symptoms associated with a fructose-rich diet in the male offspring in Wistar rats
Rabaglino, Maria Belen; Moreira Espinoza, María José; Lagares, Clarisa; Garay, María Isabel; Quiroga, Patricia; Pasqualini, María Eugenia; Francini, Flavio; Beltramo, Dante Miguel
The hypothesis was that maternal intake of the antioxidant alpha-lipoid acid (ALA), during the developmental period of the hypothalamic orexigenic neurons, causes a permanent beneficial effect in offspring metabolism. Pregnant Wistar rats were fed with standard diet (food) + ALA (0.4% wt/wt) from day 14 of gestation to day 20 of lactation (n = 4) or food (n = 4). At 3 months of age, male offspring born from ALA-fed rats or controls (CT) were randomly assigned to be fed with food + 10% fructose solution in drinking water (F) or food + tap water (C), resulting in four groups: ALAF, ALAC, CTF, and CTC (n = 5/group). Food intake and body weight (BW) were measured twice a week for 31 days. Metabolites' levels in blood, mRNA expressions of Npy, Agrp (hypothalamus), Fasn, Srebf1, Ppard, and Pparg (liver), and the antioxidant capacity of the liver were determined. Results significance was set at p < 0.05. Average BW gain, daily BW gain, and intraabdominal fat tissue at necropsy were higher in CTF group followed by CTC, ALAF, and ALAC groups. There were no differences between groups in Kcal intake per day. mRNA expressions of hypothalamic and hepatic genes and plasmatic levels of glucose and triglycerides were higher in CTF group followed by ALAF, CTC, and ALAC groups. Fructose intake affected the oxidative capacity of the liver, but this effect was not observed in the ALAF group. In conclusion, maternal ALA intake protected the adult offspring to develop metabolic symptoms associated with high fructose in the drinking water.

Having demonstrated the ability of monosialoganglioside GM1 micelles as oncology drug transporter, this work focuses on evaluating its application in an in vivo system, studying the toxicity and antitumoral effect of GM1-Ptx micellar formulation. The maximum tolerated dose (MTD) obtained after intravenous administration of GM1-Ptx in mice was 55 mg/kg and the 50% lethal dose (LD50) was 70 mg/kg. This value is higher than those described for the commercial formulations TAXOL and ABRAXANE, with LD50 of 30 and 45 mg/kg respectively. The antitumor activity, mortality and incidence of metastasis were studied on a murine model of mammary gland cancer. The GM1-Ptx formulation was administered i.v. at different doses for 9 weeks using empty GM1 micelles and saline as treatment controls. Once the treatments were completed, biochemical markers were quantified and histological tissue tests were performed. The most promising results were obtained with the treatment at a dose of 15 mg/kg/twice a week, condition in which a longer survival and significant reduction in the incidence of animals with metastasis, since only one 25% of the mice showed presence of pulmonary micro metastases.

The Antarctic Starry Skate (Amblyraja georgiana) is a medium-sized (to 115 cm total length) deepwater skate that occurs in the Southeast Pacific Ocean off southern Chile, in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean off southern Argentina and the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), in the Atlantic and Pacific Antarctic Oceans from South Georgia Island and the Antarctic Peninsula to the Ross Sea, and in the Indian Antarctic off the Crozet Islands. It is demersal on continental and insular slopes at depths of 20?1,255 m, and is captured as bycatch in trawl and longline fisheries, particularly those targeting Patagonian Toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides). There are no population size estimates for this skate, and it is not clear what the current population trend is. Although estimates of bycatch around South Georgia and the Ross Sea are comprised of a low percentage of overall estimated stock biomass, the demographic consequences are unknown and require further research. Furthermore, catch levels in other areas are unknown, and some specimens previously referred to as this species may include cryptic individuals of a yet-to-be-described species. Overall, it is not clear what level of fishing mortality this species is exposed to across its range, and further research is needed on distribution, population size and trend, and threats. Therefore, the Antarctic Starry Skate is assessed as Data Deficient.
